Research Breakthrough

Greetings,

Due to the Passover Holiday, I was unable to collect a research stamp on Friday, March 30th, putting me a day behind most people in the US. So, some questions for those of you who got their seventh stamp today:

1) What was the encounter? Rumor was that it is a Moltres (which I missed out on the first time). Is this true, or is it random? What were the catch mechanics? Like Mew, automatic on 3rd ball, or something else?

2) Another thread has indicated that there seems to be considerable variance in the mystery items reward. Any correlations with other things (stuff in bag, number and type of field research completed)? Maybe it's too early to figure this out yet, but we should probably (collectively) get started on that.

3) After completing the task, does another set of seven appear for next week, or is this a short term thing? Same question applies for the Special Research for Mew, but I imagine thousands have finished that so we should know by now if there is something afterwards or not.

Thanks for the info.

1) Yes, Moltres. I know nobody who had something else. Therefore, I don't think it is random. You have to catch with your own balls/berries. It doesn't necessary stay in. It could probably flee.

2) No idea!

3) Yes you start another session of 7 stamps. We don't know what the reward will be. (Another legendary ? The same one ?) For Mew, the quest is over (until the next is implemented).

Cool, thanks. Nice to fill out the dex with another legendary I don't have.

It's possible that these are just going through the legendaries in order (Moltres is #146, I think), which would imply that Zapdos is next, then Articuno. After that, maybe we skip ahead to gen 2, Raikou, Entei, and that useless water thing (which could REALLY use a power-up and move refinement. Waterfall, Surf, well, anything really, hard to make it worse.) Or they could throw in regionals, or other rares. We'll see over the next several weeks.

"that useless water thing"

ROFL!

My first throw (Ultra Ball with Pinap) caught Moltres with a critical hit (apt due to the flaming animation). Really hope for an Articuno next.

Do we know for sure that it can flee? I used a pinap for the first three throws, but it kept breaking out, so I got nervous and switched to golden razzes. I think it was on the fifth throw in total that I caught it.

To the OP, it's a level 15 Moltres.

Most likely it can't flee. There are no report of it fleeing and a guy on TSR landed 34 balls on it without a flee. I would suggest pinap.

After hearing reports of it not fleeing i was determined to catch it with a pinap and pokeball. Took a while but worked out fine.
