Reasons for Hoarding Coins?

Is it sensible to keep hoarding gym coins beyond 14500? Does anyone else keep a stash of coins? And if so, why?

Some background...

I hit that milestone today after spending an additional 9500 on storage, lucky eggs, and incubators along the way. With gyms I've been a little bit clever and somewhat active, but mainly just lucky, averaging 82 coins per day since starting in July.

[The luckiness of this gym situation might be expressible in numbers by looking at my total gym coins (24000) compared to total battles (1404 training + 337 attacking = 1741), which comes to 13.79 coins per battle.]

I mainly play as a diversion while walking my dog, and don't feel the need to rush anything in the game beyond having 12-15 adequate gym defenders. For example, I just got my first Dragonite this week, and might not have my first Tyranitar until a year from now... which is fine by me. My dog still walks with me in spite of my mediocre roster.

Initially I wanted coins so that I could increase storage (now maxed) and level up (currently 35), then so that I could incubate freely during events (done), and finally so that I could stash coins for future reworks and events.

I don't feel an urge to level up any faster or hatch tons of eggs - especially outside of events. Incense wouldn't add much to my dog walks, and I don't play stationary enough for lures.

I'd pay twice as much for storage beyond 1000, or for items that increased my chances of getting a legendary... but those options aren't available. So the coins keep building up, and I wonder whether I should bother to keep earning them - even when I'm lucky enough to live in an easy earning environment.

If you are level 35 then the coins only come into play for lucky eggs and incubators.

If storage is already maxed out along with bag space then its eggs and incubators going forward.

Wow, and I thought I'm a coin hoarder with my mere 4730. Once you maxed out storage space and got that fancy tophat for your avatar Pokecoins aren't good for anything except buying incubators, no real reason to hoard them.

With that amount of coins and if you already have maxed out inventory and mon space then I would just buy stacks of incubators every week or two weeks, if your gyms are stable why keep saving them? You already would have that Tyranitar and a maxed out Dragonite almost for sure if you spend coins on incubators. They are just uncommon from 10k, I have hatched 6 Larvitar already. I just save 3600 for the next event and spend the rest, 3 rounds of incubators are more than enough for any coming event I think, they only last for about week or less.

Wish I had that problem and didn't have to send gold to Niantic ;)

Coin hoarding does cost your account. There is an opportunity cost to not using a certain amount to cycle eggs. Every egg that holds space in your bag is an egg that could be a great mon if removed. Coins not used perform no function and only have a potential use that isn't being utilized. Now, when best to spend them for events etc is the decision.

I would personally decide what amount of coins I'd want to save to be prepared for a good event. Anything over that I would utilize to improve my egg cycling number.
