Question for my pogo players on bikes.

Thinking about investing in a bike to get good distance on eggs, go to places faster than walking without using gas, reach farther areas and also get some much needed exercise. Can anyone who rides bikes to play share their experience? Does the “fast” message pop up? Do you have to stop to catch mons or go one-handed? Have you fallen? Etc.
Thanks for the info. Anything is appreciated

Edit: what kind of bike do you use? Does brand matter?

I usually find I have to ride annoyingly slowly for it to count the distance for hatching eggs and such, but it is still much faster than walking. Once you figure out the pace, though, it works well for adding up the kilometers, but isn't really fast enough to feel like exercise. If you ride quickly enough to get your heart pumping, you will get the "too fast" message. It's also fairly easy to catch most things one-handed, but some types are too far away and require stopping to use both hands.

It's pretty easy to pay enough attention to where you're going, so I've never fallen over or run into anything, although some idiot did almost run me over a week or two ago. Riding along a narrow two-lane road with no shoulder that typically has light traffic, an usually long string of cars started passing by going the other direction. Normally I glance back quite often to see if anyone is approaching from behind me, but that section of road wasn't in the best shape, and I was watching to make sure none of the cars tried to pass each other right in front of me, so I was facing forward the entire time. Then out of nowhere, this little blue car goes shooting past from behind, in the same lane I was in, while all the other cars were still right there in the opposite lane. Even where I was at the edge of the road, I don't think there was more than one foot of space between me and that car, and I didn't even hear it coming over all the other cars going the other direction. If I'd even wobbled a little to avoid a pothole or something, that moron would have slammed right into me, because they couldn't wait ten seconds for the other cars to go by. You'll also occasionally see the sorts of drivers who intentionally blow exhaust at you or rev their engines as loudly as they can right as they pass you, to blast your ears, but that's pretty rare.

So yeah, if you're going to play by bike, be sure to take roads with little traffic, know when to ignore the game, and keep an eye out for reckless idiots. As long as you use some caution, biking is usually a pretty good way to play the game. I randomly stumbled across the only Unown and Togetic I've ever seen while riding my bike, both things I would have driven right past in a car.

ok mate,
you can go places with a bike, ride with friends to be more fun, just ride safety. always ware your helmet and glove if you want to long ride like 10-15 kms. also use head lights for night hunting (like me). use phone mount to make secure your phone or bike bike with transparent screen at the top to place yun phone there.
1 you can hatch faster than walking or jogging (just ride less then 10 kph)
2 fast massage pop up? in my case none, cuz there a lot of corners in rural places. like where i play
3 just Ride, Stop and Catch. or ride slowly, see your way first before you watch your phone. you can one handed your bike if you have experience on bikes,
4 have i fallen? nope.
5 brand of bike do not matter.

I used a bike sometimes this summer as I was in a place far away from a Pokestop. I still use it sometimes now, but it's really cold, so it's not much fun ;)

It's useful to reach areas far away from you, but I haven't had much good experiences with hatching eggs. Unless I'm mistaking the maximum speed is lower for eggs than it is for spinning pokestops and seeing Pokemons.

This summer I could go for a 20km ride and get less than half of that distance accounted for. Once I couldn't hatch a 5km egg when traveling over 10km. Really frustrating.

I usually stop and catch Pokemon, though if it's a Pidgey or one with similar throwing distance, I might use one hand.

Never fallen, which is nice. When I was younger I had a habit of falling off my bike, even when standing still. Perhaps I've grown more careful and wise as I've aged ;)

Not sure exactly what kind of bike I've got, but I would say it's an allround one. Not 100% nature/offroad, but not a "city bike".
Brand probably doesn't matter that much. Maybe a more expensive and well known brand has better quality, but I think there's probably really good cheaper ones as well. You can probably find guides to good cheaper bikes on google.

I still prefer to walk, but when you need to get to a place fast or if it's really far away, a bike can be really useful.

P.S. I know of a few players in my area who always use a bike to get around when they play (even when they don't play) and they have their phone (or phones, as some play for their kids as well) fastened on the bike so they can see the game at all times and also catch Pokemons without having to hold their phones.
And as they can get around quickly they have a habit (a bad habit, as they are not on my team) going around and taking over gyms. Reaching the maximum 20 gyms at a time is no problem for them.
I will point out though that most of them (I think) have an electric bike, which makes it easier for them.

Huge fan of riding and playing. Best thing for you to do is invest in a goplus.

You hold the go plus in one hand and set up the screen display on your bike. You can ride around, and when it vibrates, you can decide to press the button (if it's a pidgey) or pull over and catch if you want it.

I find that it tracks my distance more accurately, and potentially ignores the 'too fast' notice sometimes. I generally ride around my area visiting cluster spawns and gyms. Great workout and grind sesh.

I play on rollerskates. It isn't too fast, and my hands are free, and I have the added option of skating backwards if i need to look back. Plus I have reliable brakes.

I play on bike in a densely populated area here in Taiwan.

To answer your questions:

1. When I do play by bike, I usually ride more than 10km (sometimes 30-40km in a day), so getting exercise in and my eggs hatched never a problem. Accumulating distances for eggs, though, can be quite the painstaking process. I’d take out my phone more often than not while riding just to check how many km left till they hatch.

2. I rarely get the “going too fast” msg while riding, unless I’m cruising down some slope. So yeah, spinning pokestops and encountering mons no problem for me on this front.

3. I’m going to be honest here. As I don’t have a “phone holder” installed on bike nor do I have a goPlus, when playing on bike I have to play one-handed: 1) to check egg distance 2) so I don’t miss catching rare mons 3) save time while catching fillers [straight throws as I don’t yet know how to curve-ball with one hand] 4) see what raids are nearby.

To elaborate more on catching mons, yes, at times you do have to stop to catch, especially those pesky ubiquitous critters, Totodiles, Chikoritas (we have a lot here), and far away second or third stage evolution mons. Most of the time, as I’m rushing from one place to another, I’m one-balling mons. Could care less if I don’t catch them. Yet I often find myself braking in between just to catch a damn feisty Poliwhirl or Crobat for that extra dust. If I come across something big and rare, well, a no-brainer to stop and catch.

All that aside, if you’re only planning to hatch eggs while riding, then you might not have to play one-handed.

4. No, I’ve never fallen off my bike before. You do have to watch out for reckless imbeciles that pop out of nowhere. Here in the streets of Taipei, bikes and motorcycles are competing for lanes all the time. I’ve had several close encounters myself, twice almost getting knocked over by motorists switching lanes without warning.

5. Any bike will do for me. No particular preference.

You get egg distance under 15 km/h, the "I'm a passenger" warning comes up over 30-35 km/h. At typical speeds you gain very little if any egg distance.

Do not hold the phone with one hand and steer/brake with the other hand. You will either drop the phone while handling it at some point, or you brake with the chance of falling. When you brake with one hand on the handle bars, your body weight may push you off your saddle, especially when going down a slope, even just slowly.

I typically get 1/8th of the distance I actually travel, and going at a decent speed. How much you get will depend how fast you go. I've never gone "too fast".
When I need to hatch eggs, walking is clearly superior. Going from gym to gym is quite convenient actually. Be safe.

I ride to town sometimes (4 km) to easily get to the 8 closest gyms and the park; I love biking, it's great exercise, and I'm very experienced. I have the perfect set-up: Phone mounted on a device holder (flexible silicone, but very secure) on the handlebar, Go Plus attached next to it... great, safe way to catch mon. If I really want something that I don't trust the Plus with I will stop... catching while riding is just not safe. If you use incense, a mon appears every 200 yards or so and you can easily collect lots of XP and dust that way.

If I want egg distance, though, I walk. I usually only get 1/4 to 1/3 of the distance I ride.

Have I fallen? Yes, once, it was really dumb. I wanted to turn around from a near-standing position to get back to a pokestop (back in March, when items were still hard to get), fell and landed hard on my wrist... the injury caused me a lot of pain and problems at work until just recently. Yes, injury is a risk - but I have also managed to fall flat on my face after tripping over a root while walking in pursuit of mon.

Playing outdoors is not without risk - but I suppose you could fall off your couch while spoofing ;)

I play almost exclusively on bike in the netherlands.
I have no fast message popping up, but i ride slow and catch mons one handed. Have never fallen of, probably because we have separate lanes for bikes.
No idea what brand it is, is second-hand (like most bikes here)

I do that in the summer, I live near my old college campus with a bunch of stops/gyms. It feels like it doesn't read the distance too well on my way there (as i'm going faster to get there), but once I'm there and am going slower (enjoying the scenery while swiping/battling gyms) I can see the distance racking up. I suggest going to a place like a park/campus with a bunch of stops where you can ride at a relaxed pace with a lot of pokeactivity, it's a great way to get some exercise and be outside.
