PvP: Your thoughts on charging charge attack

How do you guys feel about the way currently PvP wants you to charge up a charge attack? It currently requires you to rapidly tap the screen for a short period of time.

I've always been quite good in rapidly tapping a buttin/screen. But for me in order to achieve this, I have to fully tense my lower arm and finger and I don't feel this is a healthy position be in for a longer period of time.

I've always been reserved using this method because it puts an unusual amount of stress/strain on my muscles. Unfortunately I'm not able to better describe it than this.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter.

To clarify, I think it is a good way to have some "skill" in this mechanism, even if it is only very slightly by the current way it is implemented.

All I'm worried about if it is not damaging to my body, regardless of how weird this may sound.

I agree. It may sound trivial, but we may be reading about Poke-tunnel syndrome some day. I realize I don’t have to tap so hard, but my hand always hurts at the end of a raid that went down to the wire.
As for pvp, really? An opponent should wait while I charge up my charge move? In the raid scenario, we make a split second decision to dodge, based on what we know about the Pokémon and move sets. Why not the same for pvp?

Likely due to network speeds/ping, it's barely working for raid battles, imagine between players.
Niantic stated that they didn't want players just avoiding attacks all game as well.

If for some reason I have to play one-handed, the best and fastest method that I've tested is to rapidly shake my arm back and forth while locking my thumb near the center of the screen and leaving a 2mm gap between thumb and screen. At least in my case it is easier to move my arm at that speed in that angle than actually moving my thumb in a rapid pressing motion.

If I have both hands available, holding my phone with one hand and rapidly alternating between tapping the screen with my ring, middle, and index fingers charges it up so extremely fast that I think a lot of the "energy" is wasted in the end. The further away I get each finger to tap on the surface from each other, the easier it is for my phone to distinguish between each tap and register them individually, so tapping horizontally across the screen works the best. I don't use my little finger because it is so much shorter than the rest and it ends up breaking my sequence somehow instead of helping.

Neither of these "techniques" hurt me arm, hand or fingers in any way so I would recommend them if your phone can register each tap.

I just slightly shake my thumb over the screen, to the point where it looks as if i'm not even playing, even though the tapping happens really fast and is registered just as fast. The rest of my hand doesn't move at all during it.

I haven't had any pain or tension issues so far, probably about 40 PvP battles and about 70 trainer battles. Especially for the trainer ones, I set my phone down on a hard surface as soon as touch the charge button and tap there. Less strain on either hand.

I personally wouldn’t mind something along the lines of Ingress glyphing. You see a pattern for 1 second, and you get 2 seconds to copy it. The quicker you complete it the more powerful the charge is. Could also work for shielding too. The quicker you do it the stronger it is (instead of the current no damage set up), fail it and the shield fails.

If I were designing it, I would copy the mechanic of throwing a pokeball at a circle. If you get a nice/great/excellent shot, it does more damage. They could even vary the size and distance of the circle by move and do some cool animations. In essence, the more accurate the attack, the more damage it does. I also like the fact that it rewards risk taking (going for the excellent shot at the risk of getting no bonus).

I think its pure cancer and not fun at all. It needs to be changed...
Idk how old or young people are doing it. Must be a pain.

Yes, I suspect the current method of 'charging up' one's charged attacks is a stop gap measure. They call it a mini game, in which the attacker charges up, and the defender gets a choice of using a shield or not (if one is available). Pretty simple mini-game, and not that interesting. We'll get bored with it quickly, and hopefully they will dream up something more fun and replace it pretty soon.

I just use 2 fingers and alternately tap each finger. I always get the full 3 circles with a second to spare. No strain on my fingers/hand/wrist.
