What does everyone think of PvP in its current form? I'm from the UK & have an extensive friends list which includes people I know & people I don't. I can message the people I know to arrange afew matches & battle my family members for the rewards but I'm finding more & more that everyone else are either turning off PvP in settings or not accepting challenges. Of those that do accept, it's generally one match & they leave. I love PvP but I'm finding it harder & harder to find willing participants. It's high time we had a system where we could enter a lobby & be matched in-game & battle as little or as much as we want. I don't see any downsides to this & would give everyone something to do when you're stuck at home or work. The trainer battles are frankly garbage & so easy you can do them with one Pokémon. How is everyone else's take on PvP in its current form & what would you do to improve it?

I'm basically with you. I love the idea of PvP, but the match hookup process leaves a lot to be desired.

At the moment, I pretty much only competitively PvP during our community's monthly hosted cups, where alot of the problems are alleviated. Aside from that, I battle with my second account to get the daily rewards.

I absolutely agree that it desperately needs an online matchmaking system.
I also think part of the problem is that people with multiple accounts can get rewards by themselves. Since multis are hard to detect, a workaround could for example be that you get better rewards if you battle against a variety of opponents.

I've personally been able to crack the problem by networking, I've been building up friendships with other interested players since PvP came and have several different channels where I can ask for games. I never had any incentive to fill up my friendlist before PvP but now I'm almost full.
The international PvP discord is especially great, both for discussion and for the tournament lobbies.

I agree multi accounting is a problem when it comes to finding opponents for PvP. It seems only the diehards are getting anything out of it by seeking opponents through other channels. The vast majority won't be doing this though & unless they can easily find opponents in-game, PvP will never take off & reach its potential. The Silph Tournaments are a good idea, but again, this doesn't appeal to the masses as assembling competitive teams requires a pretty large investment.

It was dead on arrival in my local community.. For a little background community days for meta relevant Pokémon and Squirtle day a thousand people where at the local park, the last Silph cup had six people show up...

The biggest complaints are its extremely difficult to find people to battle, the same rewards for winning and losing, the cost in stardust and TM’s, the meta in each division revolves around a handful of Pokémon and the hard counters for those Pokémon and finally despite the countless articles and threads on the internet on how to make the best possible team, it really seems like it’s luck of the draw deciding the outcome...

So most people around here look at PVP as just another daily grind like getting your daily research stamp or hitting a poke stop every day...

I have several WA PoGo group, so for now, i just offermyself to be a sparring partner in Silphroad Cup.
Ussually it help when there is a tournament come around, as they also need someone to practice.
And by being sparring partner, i can learn also about the monthly themes without limiting my squad to just six pokemon registered upfront, part that i dont like about the silphroad system.
But yeah, not everyone like to do PvP. Many just do the daily routine for reward, especially Charge TM.
I just hope Niantic can improve it to be better, probably allow trainer to announce that they are online, free and willing to do pvp in the friendlist.

There are people in my area that are into it, and a lot of them do practice for various Silph tourney cups. I think most people (myself included) only do the 3 dailies for the rewards, but everyone at least tries which makes it fun - nobody throws out their 10cp shitters just to get stuff, there's a lot of team building and experimentation involved which keeps things fresh.

The biggest complaints I see are that 1) no matchmaking and 2) there's no real incentive to win. Local tournaments help with point 1, but I think Niantic's continued emphasis on this being a "social game" will prevent any serious matchmaking system from being developed. Point 2, I was surprised that rewards are the same for win or lose. I think either tipping the rewards in the winner's favor or publicly displaying a W:L ratio would incentivize people to try harder.
