I was on here looking at Porygon-Z because I just evolved my Porygon2, and I was wondering if the moveset I have is viable and actually has use.

My PorygonZ(98%IV) has Hidden Power (Grass) with Solar beam. I was thinking if it was a sunny/clear day, with the weather boost, it would be a really strong pokemon. I feel it could be a pseudo grass attacker and could be unpredictable on gym defense.

If you guys could give your input that would be great.

You can use him as a semi-glassy grass (with a huge attack stat) attacker that lacks STAB... his attack is greater than most grass type attackers (if not all) but defense stat pretty low so it won't last too long. On defense, however, grass hidden power won't be covering fighting types. All of the other charge moves are good for defense, so the main focus should be on the fast charge move when considering Porygon-Z on defense. In conclusion, if you are short on grass type attackers (or missed previous CD's that featured the option for Frenzy Plant on Venusaur) you can use your Porygon-Z. On defense he's not so great even with psychic or flying hidden power.

Thanks for your input, I missed most CD's. I actually stopped playing for about a year so I don't have many CD mons with legacy movesets.

In clear weather it has the 10th highest available grass type DPS between Carnivine and Torterra. It's not something I'd consider for regular offensive use, I don't know if a Pokedraft format would suit it or not since I've never played.

In general Porygon-Z isn't a stellar defensive Pokemon to begin with since all of its charge attacks are one bar, easy to dodge attacks. Hidden Power is the better fast move to have on defense between it and Charge Beam but being grass type it's resisted by Metagross, the hot new gym generalist.

I also sadly don't see it faring well in PvP. Hidden Power generates energy pretty slowly and all of its charge moves require a full 80 energy to use. Charge Beam gains energy at a faster rate to mitigate this somewhat, but there are better options for grass type offense.

It only has 100 enery charge moves, which is not good for defense. And two are really easy to dodge if it even survives long enough against Machamp to use a charge move.

If you are bored and want a different attacker, okay. If you want it as a goofy defender, use it as is, but don't invest a lot of stardust in it. Wait and evolve another for a better Hidden Power type. Either fire, ground, ice, psychic, or flying would cover some common attacking types to put a little more unexpected pain on them. Not that it ultimately matters much. It is not going to be a major deterrent whatever moves it has.

I have to agree with the other replies. HP grass is about on par with razor leaf and bullet seed, inferior to vine whip. While there may be a niche vs ice-water or ice-ground dual types, Pory-z is a mediocre Mon in the both metas in general.
