Pogo in china

I realize that Pogo hasn't been release in China and thus there is no raiding, battling, or catching. However, will the app still track distance walked? Can I still get some buddy candy while I'm there? Should I stock up on 10km eggs before I head out?

Your going to China? Nice. I'm pretty sure You can track your distance but phone fees might be ridiculous for running the app. Depending on length of stay you might want to get a local phone and run constant hot spot?

Biz phone + hotspot, but was wondering if it'll track distance since the major obstacle to Pogo's entry is China vs Google (maps).

I was just in China myself and PoGo loads but there are no spawns, stops, or gyms. I recall my avatar moving on the screen so I suspect it'll track buddy/egg distance but I never walked enough with game open to notice or test.

Depending on your service provider you can sign up for an international plan. I had Verizon so it cost me $10/day and I think I could use 100mb daily of data based on the days I turned on LTE data and roaming. I tried to limit my data usage to every other day and use hotel wifi for most needs at night.

Lastly, this was mainland China. PoGo works 100%in Hong Kong if lucky enough to stop there. I was hoping to find me a Kangaskhan in HK but had no luck with that. Enjoy your trip and watch out for those eastern toilets!

I tried playing Pokemon Go in mainland China, with a roaming data. The map showed up, and the avatar walked. However, it would never track my walking distance, and the map and GPS detection are not as precise as I am in Hong Kong and Japan.
