After days of walking as buddy, I finally encountered another Grimer.

I evolved my old Grimer with a good IV, it got Infestaion/DP! The worst moveset for attack.

So my question is: is it a viable defender and worth powering up? Most people won't send fairies attacking into Muk, unless they have Zen Headbutt, they will send Rhydon or Alakazam. In the Rhydon case, PJ does 1.250.64=80% of total damage, while Infestaion being 100% damage. In the Alakazam case, PJ does 1.250.8=100% of total damage, while Infestaion being 100%, too.

Dark Pulse is a move with 2 bars without STAB, it does 125% damage to Alakazam and does 25% more damage to Rhydon compared to Gunk Shot.

Though, it would be placed near the bottom of the gym, but not the bottom in my local gyms.

Doesn't matter. If i wanna wreck a gym, im gonna wreck it. And a muk certainly won't scare me from doing that.

Muk is cool, so go ahead. It's not a weak defender, although it's not particularily strong either.

Just a small correction: PJ vs. Alakazam does 1.25 * 1, as poison is neutral against psychic. Infestation does 1 * 1.25. So you're correct in that they do the same %, but instead of doing 100% as you say, they in fact do 125% as PJ has unresisted STAB while Infestation is SE without STAB.

I would not power it up. I rename my gym attackers for the type they counter and I have plenty of poison type counters. Also work the gym rework coming who knows what is going to happen

Here on gamepress it's listed as B Def moveset so I guess it's good
The good thing about this moveset is that it provides a good type coverage, so if someone's gonna attack your muk with Alakazam or Espeon then... poor them :)
If you have enough candies, I think powering up is worth it

If I see a Muk in a gym I'll be attacking into it with a Vaporeon; I'm not going to go out of my way (and waste an attacking mon choice) to exploit Muk's weakness to psychic or ground for a measly 1.25x damage, especially considering Vaporeon's overall effectiveness and versatility.
