I have a lucky 96%, 14 atk, its high level around 2700CP, and a low level 98% unevolved much lower level meltan, 15 atk, defense and HP 14/15, they have identical stats aide from that 1 atk

I'm wondering, is that 1 attack point important for PvP, or not overly? As I plan on transferring one into Lets GO.

Also, side, semi-unrelated note, do we know the odds of the shiny meltan, or it too early/small sample size from data collection?

No, it is not important. But i think you should save the 98, evolve it into melmetal, power it up for great/ultra league since that thing is a TOTAL BEAST
I think the shiny odds are like 1/27 (but i have not experienced it cause i dont have a swich)

The 1 atk is highly unlikely to ever matter, I would advocate using the high level lucky. The dust savings are considerable.

I've also heard anecdotal reports that the shiny rate is significantly boosted from normal. My first 2 boxes haven't included one yet, but there's plenty of time to try still.

That's what I always say in Community Days until it's just 30 minutes left and I still haven't caught one :)

The event should be similar in the sense that you should be able to catch 130-180 depending on the timing and Switch availability, which if the chances are similar as CD's, then it's a fair chance to get it.

I got my shiny on my second box but under 20% IV. My wife got 2 shinys from her very first box an 80 and 89%. RNG...
