To max out or not?

Given that stardust is rarer than ever without the daily gym payout AND that most of us have a LOT of attack-mons that we need to get up to speed (since focus used to be on defenders), I'm wondering if maxing out a mon is the right priority right now. It seems to me that unless that said mon is integral to your team you would probably be better off focusing on getting a good squad of attackers to level 30.

Any opinions?

Catch lvl 30 pokes, evolve, and hope for decent move sets is a way to save stardust. Recommend saving resources till the update irons out or after anniversary/Chicago event next month.

This. ^

Lots of us transferred plenty of level 30 mons in the past simply because of IVs. The only real benefit to that was getting an edge on gym placement. So much for that...

It's been shown over and over that IVs don't matter much for attackers. I'm going to ignore the appraisals and start evolving those "worthless" level 30 mons and maybe even power some of them up a bit past 30 if they have the right moves.

I have been saying this since forever but all we hear on this site has always been IV, IV, IV.

Wrong.

But whatever, it's okay by me.

Well, level can be improved. IV's cannot. But with the increased difficulty in obtaining stardust, the indifference curve has changed somewhat.

At this point the only ones I am considering maxing out are Espeon and Machamp, already have some Dragonite, Vaporeon and Gyarados maxed and for raids Machamp is the better choice. After maxing them out I would save dust like crazy.

I am still hoping for a 2x stardust event during the anniversay and they bring back the dust rewards from gyms as they see that gym action is going down fast.

I have 3 defenders in a gym for 3+days now even they are all below 2k...They drop motivation slowly, other teams don't bother to attack and people feeds them when they are low...

This system sucks and we gonna need some dust to compensate everything we have spend on good defenders for nothing. I hope that by this moment they know how much they have screwed a lot of dedicated players,

Dust being rare is probably good for the game, I think. With raids and TM's getting high IV rare mons with great movesets is MUCH easier than before, so there needs to be some limiting factor and at the moment that is stardust. That's the main incentive to keep catching mons.

I agree. If everything is easy, nothing is valuable. There needs to be some scarcity or challenge, otherwise what's the point?

I still recommend play for the now, but prepare for changes so you're covered...

I had a mil dust prior to gym rework...down to 700k...I always wonder why/how people would like to play and use all their dust and have like 1k dust.

Also, remember that Niantic can change the game anytime so saying to just power up anything 30+ with pathetic IVs is probably not the solution neither.

I say just look at your team and focus on powering up to 30 great IVs AND ideal mons. That should cut out a lot of "junk" to waste dust on. Maybe 6 Alakazams is better for the Machamp boss, but you don't need 6.

Maybe instead of 6 Alakazam, have 2 Espeons, 2 Alakazams, and an Exeggutor and a Dragonite (which you probably had already).

Usually, 2 people can easily do a raid 3 boss so you don't need ideal anything really unless you plan to solo level 3 bosses...and that depends a lot of little lag, etc...
