Longest drought without an event?

Seems the last year there has been no more than a couple of days without some kind of event. It has now been over a week. Yes we had the pre-announcement of some future release of the details of maybe PvP but that is not actionable and actually has us STOP playing a we have no clear strategy. I was betting on release today but nothing at all.......

Here's some speculation of what could be coming up from Pokemon Go Raid Italia.

Oh boy, I can't wait to see someone on my local Facebook group post a clickbait article based off this image! /s

In all seriousness this could make a fun winter. Delibird is already confirmed to come back and it's within reason to assume Hatchu will return as well. Datamining has found strings of code referring to a Holiday 2018 event.

The two bits I'd be most skeptical about are the Gen 4 evolutions and the Jirachi research. The former because we saw with Halloween that Gen 4 evos were withheld until the Sinnoh Stone batch and the latter because they'd probably wish to incorporate a Hoenn event into it without it overlapping the Holiday one.

There will be an event. And there will be PvP. Key is WHEN. At the moment we are kinda paralyzed as crap mon may end up being really useful in PvP and there is no reason to grind just before and event. Gotta think overall play is down since we are trained to respond to events.....

There is no reason not to grind, and every reason to grind. Need candy and dust to buy second moves? We don't know the cost, but we know it will cost candy and dust, so get some more.

Don't know which crap mon will be useful? So how is that different from the previous 2 years? Keep doing what you're doing until you learn something new. Forretress turns out to be the shizz, go out and catch more once you know that, and don't fret if you threw away a middling Pineco yesterday - you acted on the best information you had.

Me, I'm guessing. I'm guessing that Magnezone and Magneton will be beasts in PvP. Meganium looks good too. So I'm acting accordingly. If I'm wrong, then I'll toss some Magnemites and Chikoritas when we learn the truth. I'm not spending dust or candy (save for evolving a few Meganium with Frenzy Plant and MM Metagross at appropriate CP levels), and if my guesses are way wrong, I won't have squandered much in the way of valued resources.

Paralysis because of analysis on incomplete information isn't fun, and this is a game, after all. So go out and do what you want to do, and enjoy it.

I find that advice on these boards tends towards paralysis. Don't spend anything. Hoard.

I prefer to spend, using the best knowledge available to me. Ergo, grinding away to the best of my ability. On the plus side, if Venonat and Treecko turn out completely broken in PvP, I'm golden.

I tend to ignore clickbait. Speculation is almost never good. Just make 20 guesses and claim to be smart if any of them pan out.

The idea of the ice pokemon from G4 coming out makes a lot of sense, and those new shineys could happen. But I'm not getting my hopes up, and any of the rest of these would be nice, but I think they are good guesses at best.

Oh come on, Pokémon Go Raid Italia is crap, it implicitly promotes GPS spoofing.

How fun is the game without any event in progress?

You're describing the first four months of play. It seemed very fun at the time, ....

those were my favorite as well (no disrespect to hkn)! Between the initial explosion in players, the 3-step foostep tracking system, and the originality, I LOVED this time period.

The fact that I was working part-time and it was summer where I lived made it even more enjoyable <3

I loved it too. Prestiging gyms was fun and every rare catch felt truly special.

I still enjoy catching, quests, and raids. So...I'm good.

I've got to be honest, It's quite nice having a break from events.

This year (or atleast parts of it) it's been one even after another. First there's loads of 3-4 different Pokemon for a couple of weeks or so, then a handful of days with normal spawns, then another few weeks with a few selected Pokemon that spawn everywhere. I mean, hasn't Machop been in like three events? No wonder I have more candy than I will ever spend on Machop :S

And recently it seemed like there was a new shiny released every week.

Anyway, I think this is just a short break before the holiday event.
And we'll probably see PvP this week or next, if all goes to plan.
Wouldn't be surprised if we get some surprise when it comes to raids as well. Cresselia will go away soon and I would not be surprised if Niantic gives us some special raid "event". Perhaps multiple T5 raid bosses and extra time on the raids.

Also, as we will soon be able to buy extra moves on our Pokemon, which will probably cost a fair bit of stardust and candy, maybe the Holiday event will help us with that.
