Location for Special Research Encounter Pokemon

I'm traveling next week, and it looks like the timing will be right for me to finish the Celebi quest in an exotic city far away. I think it would be cool, and a nice souvenir (that takes up zero suitcase space) to have Celebi caught in that city.

But I looked at my Mew, and found that all it said was "caught", without the city information (caught it at work, so I know where it should be from). Is this always the case with Special research pokemon? Do y'all have Mews that aren't from anywhere, and were just caught, or is is just me? Will the same thing happen to Celebi? Anyone finished the quest yet and have answers about where you caught it?

Thanks in advance.

When Mew first came out, encounters weren't tagged with a location. My Mew doesn't have one. Now encounters are given locations (June, a little after trading, I think). My kids' Mew, caught during Eevee Community Day, is accurately location tagged.

Echoing the previous answer, it should be the exact same as any other research encounter since the update that added friendship, it gets the location where you caught it and it's not catchable if you don't have GPS signal. Nowadays I always save encounters in advance when I know I'm going more than 100km out of town to get free distance pokemon (and make sure I can keep streaks).
