Lapras above its max cp

Just a minute ago, I saw this 2800+ Lapras in a gym. This Lapras cp, as you can see, is above its max cp 2603. Why is that? Could it be that it has been placed in the gym before the nerf or?

It was placed before Gen2.

I think if you fight it, it fights with the new stats.

^^^ I can confirm this as my Arcanine was in a gym pre-update and its stats stayed the same until it was removed from the gym. Not this most current update, but the one where they cut his CP from 2500 to like 2200…..

Same thing happened with my Nidoqueen that was in a gym for about two months. It still showed as ~2100 in the gym, but was ~1900 in my pokemon storage.

Can confirm my Lapras has been in a gym for acouple weeks now and after the update my lapra says it's 1951cp but in the gym it's still 2200+

My Lapras is still in a gym at ~2700. I'll be sad when it gets kicked out because I'll probably never put it in a gym again. All that walking and all that stardust. :,-(

Yup 1 had 2 Lapras in gyms around 2550 CP with ideal movesets... after nerf, they sat in bottom of gyms and immediately be booted out. I can't even use which was once considered one of the best if not the best defender anymore. So, I feel ya. Lapras was the Buddy I walked the most. Spent a lot of stardust on them both, and now falls to the ranks of SlowBrow and/or Poliwrath... ughhh...
