Kyogre impossibly hard to catch?

I expect a "Git Gud" response but it clearly isn't the case.

Listen: I can throw and catch ANY pokemon easily with the exception of Kyogre. With the rest i still have a fighting chance but with Kyogre i really couldn't do anything; There is NOTHING i could possibly do against it save for wasting my grbs and premier balls. My catch rate for it right now is 3-6.

First, it is so ridiculously far away that the ball will just float in front of it and it is nearly impossible to get excellents at, if you manage to land any balls on it it breaks out after 2 shakes. Usually i can hit it, other times the balls will simply drift over it and miss. With weather boosted specimens i literally did not have a chance.

Secondly, if you throw the ball when it attacks, it will just follow up with another attack and bat it off WITHOUT FAIL. There is absolutely no window between its attacks and it will simply bat the ball off if it does. I've faced Kyogre a lot and it's pretty clear that sooner or later it is going to bat off a ball EVEN when you throw at the perfect timing.

They need to change the distance of that thing further, because at this point Kyogre is the definition of frustration for me.

Some reports said you could slow the boss down 80% on first ball with Nanab berries and then its effect would be significantly smaller, but present. Not sure if to believe it without game master info, but if you're desperate, you can try.

I remember when it first came out and it was just a total nightmare how far it was. Then they brought it a bit closer after a few days and it was much easier to hit.

But hey, I know a trainer in my raid group that managed to let a shiny Kyogre escape because he couldn't hit ANY ball :)

Anyway, glad we have a challange. It used to be significantly harder in the beginning. All legendaries should be as difficult to catch as kyogre.

I applaud how calmly you're dealing with this frustration.

I too am quite low for Kyogre compared to other legendaries; I personally find it easier as a right handed person throwing right handed curve balls to try for it when it's drifted to the right. For some reason I do a better job getting the greats that way. I'm 2/4 trying it that way and 1/7 when centred.

"There is absolutely no window between its attacks"
Here you are flat out wrong. There is always a small window (IIRC we know this from the game code), but it is small and you need to know the timing exactly to hit it with a 100% rate. If you're getting your balls batted off, that means you missed the timing. It's hard to get it right because it's so far and you need to throw the ball way in advance so it has time to travel. Practice makes perfect.

Kyogre is one of the harder legendaries to throw at for sure, but Lugia takes the win for being the most frustrating in my opinion. I can circle lock Kyogre and get fairly reliable curve greats into any of the three positions, but circle locking doesn't work on Lugia and that just makes it way harder.

EDIT: My numbers reflect this pretty well. 37/47 on Kyogre, 21/48 on Lugia, although admittedly I wasn't trying to catch all Lugias seriously because their candy wasn't worth much to me.

Circle locking used to work on Lugia during the first wave of legendary raids. Lugia used to sit further back before they fudged distances in response to Kyogre being too far back. Now it's way too close to effectively lock it.

I distinctly remember trying to use it on Lugia the first time it was out and failing every time. I hated throwing at it from the beginning.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, my catch record was only 4/7 before they left the raid scene. Either way I remember struggling way less to hit excellent throws on it during its first run.

The only issue I have is when it moves to the left, because I always curve my balls to the right, but I just wait a bit for it to go back to the center. Otherwise I've caught all 7 of the ones I've tried so far in this event.

I understand how you feel, it makes me not wanna do any T5 raids because I'm too scared to curveball on it and miss so I just use Golden Razz and wait until they finished taunting then throw it straight, it is RNG anyways. I would rather try to catch it then miss trying to curveball it.
I'll keep trying though if it's a shiny, I'm gonna ask someone around me for help to catch it for me. Lol
I just hope they are nice enough.

Before and after they changed its distance Kyogre has been the toughest to actually catch legendary; its distance is awkward relative to the size of its circle, it has the side-to-side animation, you have to throw the ball earlier during its attack animation than you'd expect. Its one of the few that I'll settle for Great throws on over Excellent because it's that much easier for me to continuously hit Greats.

At least it doesn't sit back as far as Mantine anymore. I was one of the lucky ones who managed to catch theirs that far back but it was not a fun experience.

Kyogre is by far the most difficult legendary to catch because it's really erratic and because it's so far away to aim it properly.
Mi advice: Set the circle of the Premier Ball and wait until it attacks you. When the attack animation is ending throw a curve throw the farthest you can. If you got it right you should land and excellent curve throw or at least you'll manage to get it to enter to the Premier Ball. With Golden Razz excellent curve throw, and if you have the Gold Water-type Pokemon medal, your chances are of a 12,28%. Now, if it moves to the left or right, do the same but throwing the Premier Ball to the same direction slightly to the left or right. I'm left handed, so I can get excellent throws when Kyogre is in the middle or in the left side. When is in the right, I just wait until he moves back. Good luck!

Not much to say, really - it sounds like the worst case of RNGitis imaginable. I'm not having any issues catching Kyogre - it's a pain to hit, and I don't do multiple Kyogre raids in a row with a Lucky Egg on because it can take me upwards of 15min to actually catch it. But I'm catching them.

It sounds a LOT like the issues I had with Rayquaza back when Rayquaza first came out, and I literally could NOT hit Rayquaza most of the time. No matter how I threw, every ball missed. I had one raid where I missed every single ball on 8 balls. Meanwhile, most everyone I was raiding with was having the problem of Rayquaza shaking out of Excellent Curveballs because they were able to easily get Excellents on it.

About the only thing I can suggest is trying on a different device - it MIGHT be an issue with your device. With Rayquaza, I was able to hit it regularly with my Daughters account, on a second device. (not CATCH it, just hit it.)

But if that's not the case, then this sounds like an extreme case of RNGitis. And there's nothing that can be done about it, unfortunately - just need to endure until the Niantic RNG Gods re-roll your dice.

I think your experience is actually fairly typical of players who are actually good at setting the circle and throwing to the center of the target. You catch Kyogre at a 50% rate, but everything else (with the possible exception of Lugia) at a 90% rate or higher.

It's just a combination of it being tough to hit with consistent excellents and having a low baseline catch rate. For example, I've had runs of trouble catching things like the Regis or Mewtwo, but I was still hitting them with strings of 10+ excellents in a row, so eventually the RNG would click and they'd stay caught.

With Kyogre, you have to worry about making sure your throw is high and far enough, but then, because of the farther throw (and thus delay), it has a greater chance to not only hit a slightly late ball away with a double move, but also it has the option to slide to the side of the screen. There is just much less room for slight errors with kyogre due to the tougher throw, the longer hangtime of the throw, and the options to both attack and move in that window.

I felt the same during Kyogre's first run. I literally couldn't believe it when my first 6 Kyogres all ran away. Even when the range was fixed it was still hard to catch, especially with phones that aren't very wide because Kyogre was still pretty far away. My score now is 4 successful captures out of 13 encounters. I'm definitely going to raid more Kyogres, but definitely not during rain because I already had the dreadful experience of throwing 8 Excellents and 1 Great on a weather boosted Groudon and failing to catch it.

Imo the only issue is it's movement to left and right. I don't want to stay there for 10 minutes to just catch one Pokémon...

Well but I myself noticed how extremely different throwing is on certain devices. That's imo the biggest issue of the game: Some players have it much more difficult to catch anything just because their screen is different.

The very first weekend of Kyogre I caught only 4/20...my screen is cracked and it was cold?!? I wasn't getting the torque to throw so far back...my percentage obviously improved...Pokedex says I'm now 45/77...guessing 10 of those were trades coming in? Estimating 31/47...I just try to hit the fish, a curve and GRB. However, Heatran 37/41 and 23/23 on Cresselia (some but not a lot were trade "catches.") Kyogre is rightfully tough, a lot of the recent ones are unreasonably easy to catch.

Yup, your catchrates mimic mine...if I were a more industrious player. 13/24 on Kyogre (still haven't done a new raid on him since he came back this week), 9/10 on heatran, 6/6 on moon duck. I would just say don't get down if a kyogre gets away and you have trouble landing excellents...it happens

Caught my first Groudon and Kyogre without using the curveball just wait until it's done taunting then throw and hope for the best.
