If only PGo would eliminate raids ...
The game would be fun again .....
Who has fun doing raids ?? Who .... no one except the losers that like to be rewarded for doing nothing .... it's pointless and needs to go away .... it's like a drug for people who are 40 and still live in their mommies basement ....
Pokemon go is supposed to be a hunt.... get out there and fish ... whatever .... raids are like going to Wal-Mart and buying a big fish ...and then showing off like you caught it .... like who gives a crap
Maybe I will go to Wal-Mart... or better yet Costco and get that oversized fish ... then go home put it on my fishing rod and take a picture and then post it to Facebook and every other media site so I get ppl to congratulate me on my accomplishment
Pathetic eh ???? Well all your raid wins are no different
;-p

Hate that valuable mons like Tyranitar or Machamp are available as raid bosses, as it severely runs down their rarity. I'm... torn... On legends as well. It's fun getting together with people and doing a large scale raid, but it also feels like there should be some solo method for getting legends. Maybe like a quest system.
Those two aside, I love the system. On smaller scale stuff, it's a fun and rewarding distraction when the game gets boring.
I've done a lot of raids but I completely agree with you. What MADE the game a hit was going out and exploring and discovering both new places and new Pokemon. Battling is fun, knowing which moves are best against which opponent, trying to build the best roster of both attackers and defenders.
Now, anyone can have an instant roster of legendaries. There are people in my town who do 10 raids a DAY, every day, just level 5s. Spending hundreds of dollars. People who are barely level 30 with 100 legendaries. And gaining massive XP just from raids, skipping all the work it took. My being level 39 and grinding to build a roster than has the best moves and high IVs of everybody, trying to fill my index, walking hundreds of miles to hatch eggs... what did it all matter in the end when anyone can buy basically all the best Mon?
It has become a group of people driving around doing legendary raids, I rarely actually see anyone walking and playing anymore.
The only reason I still play is because of raids. Not because I like showing off my Costco fishes, but because it made me reach out to other players in my area. Before raids started, I was beginning to grow tired of the eternal grind. Going out to find worthless mons alone started to really make me question whether or not I wanted to play, so I quit for a month just before raids started. Then I had a friend show me the new raid system, and it made me interested in raiding. At first I raided so I could show off my big costco fish, but as time went on, I found that I was showing up less and less to raids for the pokemon than for the people who would show up. My team started a slack for high level team members in our area, and it is a lot of fun to be in this slack. The people I met through this team and through raiding make me want to continue playing, and yes, continue raiding. So why are raids good for pokemon go? Not because it lets people get high IV mons fairly easily, but that is a bonus, but because it creates a pokemon go community that makes people want to start playing and keep playing. That's my 2 cents and some, and I know that my experiences with raiding aren't the same as everyone's but that is why, in my opinion, raiding is an essential part of pokemon go.
Exactly, Raids revived my town (20k inhabitants), I almost thought I´m all alone until Raids hit the scene.
We´ve created a WhatsApp group (currently 39 members) and meet everyday,
Raids are the best that could happen to us, if Gen 3 would´ve introduced instead/before Raids, it´d barely change anything, Raids are what brought us together, we have a living community of all age groups now, never imagined that would even be possible here
Edit: Besides that, Raids give new players the chance to catch up when it comes to good Pokemon (or even get the entries), but it doesnt change much on the big grind, stardust is king and you need to grind for that (or spend hundreds of dollars for 24/7 incubators, which is, somehow, earned, too)
Funny you said that, I wasn't a fan of high level raids but our small town (~ 3500 pop.) has a very nice park with stops and an active gym scene. ... my hope is to get everyone organized on Discord for the high level raids they want to do. It can bring the community together... what's wrong with that? It doesn't keep anyone from walking/hatching/catching. And no one can take away the experience we have gained from grinding (I'm lvl 39 and have done exactly 3 legendary raids).
Your comment basically says; Pokemon go is more a social club than a game.
That is correct, even though people here like to pretend otherwise. However there are people in the social club who brag about their costco fish that they've bought. And brag, and brag, and brag.
I think this thread is a sly dig at those type of people.
Raids are a good balancing mechanic for more casual players since it's apparently impossible to completely stop spoofers, so more people have useful mons. Also, building teams to optimally counter and/or solo raids is a much more interesting use of time and resources than what we had before the wave of updates around when raids were introduced. At that point the only thing anybody would have felt like powering up were blissey and snorlax, and machamp to counter them, basically nothing else mattered.
I like raids because of the possibility of soloing them. If they were to add stuff that is exclusively solo, couldn't say you didn't work to catch that thing, it would take your strongest stuff to beat them, if they're T3 level. Yeah you'd walk less but you'd use up potions, revives, and time to beat it. Plus it's a great way of testing what your current team is capable of.
The group raids, while enjoyed by some as they can meet more people, become too easy if you get a certain amount of raiders so not much effort gets put in at that point.
