How many Lick/SB Gengar?

I'm keeping one Shadow Claw and one Lick, not planning on more gengar. They have good DPS but a little fragile so I fill the rest of the team with Shadow Ball Mewtwo and Tyranitar and such.
Another reason is I'm low-key aiming for one pokemon with different moveset if not for all different pokemon (if battle prowess aren't dramatically lowering)

I was lucky, the one I CTM'd only took two attempts. I'll stick with one until I'm reasonably flush with CTMs - probably aim for three longer term.

I've been trying to change a lucky Mewtwo 3630cp to Ice Beam...I'm 13 CTMs into it. Waiting for the news IB is gone, but I wouldn't know about something like that til a month after

2 total gengar is sufficient imo... Although it may depend on your SB Mewtwo stack.

If you have 2 gengar, 2 SB Mewtwo, then Darkrai and Tyranitar - that's a solid lineup to cover ghost/psychic bosses.

Not certain, but I think there's also some solid dark types in Gen 4 (weavile and honchcrow) which could replace gengar?

I'd want 1-2 glass, 3-4 supreme (Mewtwo/Darkrai), then one tank.

The average player needs one or two Shadow Claw or Lick Gengar.... the more you are into speed raiding and short manning they more you are going to need.

I would stick with the one until you run into a situation that really makes you think you need more of them. I don't have a single one TM'd and powered up because I have zero need for it at the moment. I'll reconsider when we get a raid where it's the top DPS.

Having had to miss Gengar raid day, I evolved 3 decent Gastly with Lick, not CTM'd any yet tho. Already have afew Hex/SB & 1 maxed SC/SB so not pressing ATM but will do 2 of them eventually. Just done a Gengar raid actually & got my first hundo, weather boosted but unfortunately both it's best fast moves are Legacy so gonna hold onto him incase we can TM those moves in the future. I would say 3 maxed Gengars should cover most eventualities, either with Lick or SC.

My situation is almost identical to yours. I had a lucky L34 13/14/15 Gastly, which I evolved with lick, and it took four of my five CTM's to get SB, after which I maxed it.

Now I'm back up to three CTM's, and I'll probably try to get SB on 2-3 more of my lick Gengars (I have a 12/14/12 at L33, a 14/15/14 at L25, and a 15/12/15 at L20) but I'll wait until I have a bigger stockpile of CTM's, and TM them one by one over a long period of time. If SB becomes legacy on Gengar in the meantime, so be it.

I also want to CTM a lucky Mewtwo to TB (I already have enough powered up Mewtwos with the better moves), so it might be a while before I get up to 3-4 L/SB Gengars, but that's the plan.

Unless you are big into speed raiding, the most I can imagine needing is 4 total Lick
Or Shadow Claw/Shadow ball Gengars. You'll want bulk for you last 2 if you're using that much glass. Beyond the 2 you have, there will be diminishing returns.
