How to fail spectaculary, and why i do not like CD exclusive moves

Today i had finally saved up to give my best Metacross a 2nd charge move.

I got Psychic and tok out a TM to change IT to earthquake, but manager to change meotor mash to earthquake instead.

Very easy to do if you have bad eyesight and are tired in addition. One totally wasted lvl 40, 98% Metacross.

The exclusive CD moves makes these kind of easy mistakes really hurt. In addition they make everything you maxed out before an event also being worthless (my previous 4 lvl 40 flashcannon metacross are just collecting dust without hope in the future)

Probably many who do not dare evolving a starter outside a CD event anymore. Shame.

It's a shot in the dark, but submit a ticket to Niantic and see what comes of it. Emphasize that with MM being an exclusive move you can't just change it back.

Reasons like this are one of many why the exclusive move system completely bites ass, even if some of us have resigned to the fact that Niantic is likely unwilling to deviate from TM-locking them for any circumstance. Also the UI for selecting what charge move is getting replaced is confusing as hell and needs a 2nd confirmation prompt so you don't erase something unintentionally.

I just had it happen on a perfect level 40 Blastoise and tried to send a support ticket. This was their answer:

Hi Trainer,

Thank you for writing in.

Sorry to know that you've accidentally changed the Charge Move- Hydro Canon on your Blastoise. Since you've accidentally changed the event exclusively move Hydro Canon, it is not possible to make your Blastoise learn this move again. We manually do not have the option to manually change the moveset of your Blastoise from our end.

If you have any other questions, please contact us.

So you being tired and not able to afford glasses or worse still being so lazy you couldn’t be bothered to put them on is Niantic’s fault how?

Being a complete dick to random people is kind of your thing, isn't it? How incredibly sad.

FYI, everything is not correctable with glasses. I got 3 different pairs, but when I am the slightest tired nothing really helps much.

Bummer!! I agree it is too easy to do. I added 2nd moves to a Shadow Ball Mewtwo, and I noticed it would be very easy to change the wrong charge move with a TM. Niantic needs a final yes/no verification before the move is changed. Right now you only need to touch too high.

Lmao they should also give the second charge move a freaking green button in the prompt.

I'm afraid of this every time I use a TM now. Special moves should be locked with a prompt message similar to the way you transfer hat Pikachu and legendaries...

Really sorry for your loss, there's no way they give it back to you.

You sound like the type of hardcore player who always wants more. You already had FOUR Metagross before the first Beldum CD? Yeah I don't feel any pity for your kind.
Yes the UI is a bit odd, but if you know you're tired and have bad eyesight, maybe take things slower next time. I'm sure your team of 6 Tyranitars/Groudons can fill in.

Yes, I have backup, so I am not the worst victim of this bad design (even though I play much less now than half a year ago, <50 pokemon/day vs 400+ before). Still frustrating.

But I guess I am not the only one that have done this.

But the really sad thing with CD days that it makes people avoid evolving if there is a slightest chance of being a (new) CD, As well as rendering ever investment before pretty useless. Future CDs on Groudon, Kyogre or Mewtwo, would make lots of people really frustrated over their precious investments in rare candy.

I agree with this. Not because some us are too hardcore to be hurt by mistakes like this does it mean that it cannot really screw up people in lower playing tiers with limited access to these exclusive species. Some excited kid with just the one good MM Metagross he could evolve during both CDs might just spend a handful of rare candies to unlock a second move on his precious acquisition just to get screwed up by bad interface design. The truth is, a few minor tweaks could make this risk a complete non-issue in no time. It's nothing game-breaking but there's no denying it could be made fool-proof very easily.

Groudon, Kyogre, and Mewtwo don't evolve -_- Any altered state likely wouldn't be a "Community Day" event. Especially on legendaries.

No, but raid-events, which is very close. Since power up legendaries have a steep cost, lots of not-so-hardcore players would then have "wasted" their previous candy investments.

If you happen to have a screenshot of your Metagross before you changed the charge move, maybe include that in a ticket to Niantic asking if they can revert it back to MM. That at least adds an element of proof that your Metagross did indeed have MM before it was accidentally TM'd away.

Aside from that, you have my condolences. The interface for TMing when you have multiple charge moves is rather poorly designed. Misclicking and accidentally TMing away the wrong move is easy to do, and it's something I hope Niantic addresses at some point.

I'm still trying to give my Charizard Blast burn and Dragon Claw...2nd move was given Fire Blast...8 charged TM later it has flip flopped b/t FB and OH every time. I can see how this could happen, if you do 5 in a row and you are flustered/frustrated...hit it with a fat finger, then Pow! Not to mention if someone's phone isn't performing ideally, things freeze up (literally and figuratively)

same thing happened to me, I'm sitting at like 8 charged tms and im not willing to bottom out completely lol

There are many mistakes one can commit that cannot be undone. I have a legacy Scyther with Bug Buzz. Everytime I use him I fear that I will evolve him into a totally normal Scizzor by accident. Same with my high-level Chansey.

The assessment function and the sell-to-candy-factory function are right next to each other. A just-caught Pokemon will have no favorite status and the first screen of the assessment dialogue is without information, thus tapped away immediately without thought ...

Yes, their interface have many traps. Especially when many people with different disabilities (myself included) play a lot.

I so would have liked a "undo" feature!
