Gym battle party

3 Machamps: I shouldn't need to explain this. I often use them at half HP, which is why I need 3 of them.

There is a reason why I put the slightly lower IV Machamp first. That Machamp is A/D/S 15/12/15, so there is practically no difference in battle.

If I'm fighting a GRB-defended mon in the first slot repeatedly, I will move a mon that is super effective to the first mon to the first slot in the party. When I change it back to Machamp, I keep selecting the wrong Machamp if I use one of the 100% ones. I don't have this problem with the 93% one.

Rayquaza: For Dragonites/Salamence (and the occasional Machamp/Hariyama) in gyms. Lower level dragons may get knocked out with a single Outrage.
Sometimes replaced with a L30 DB/DC Dragonite.

Zapdos: For Vaporeon/Gyarados/Milotic. I don't usually use Raikou as it's not my team's mascot.
Replaced with Raikou if I'm fighting a GRB-defended water type with ice moves.

Last slot: Depends. Sometimes another Machamp, sometimes another Dragonite, sometimes a Lugia. If I'm farming gym badge points at a gym already under heavy attack (with 3+ attackers), I will put the Lugia in the first slot and move the first Machamp here (to continue to rack up battles won).

I only ever needed 2 machamp myself, 93 and a 100, with the mewtwo raids ive found most players are either too busy raiding mewtwo to GRB or just want to conserve them for mewtwo at the moment, and even outside that most people seem to know if someone's taking a gym, 10 grb wont really stop them like it used to with legendary raids and tier 4s being so good. Wish I knew how it felt to have a Rayquaza though

Love the name of the Zapdos, gotta show that instinct appreciation

2 Machamp won't be enough if you go against a gym with a maxed Blissey, maxed Chansey and maxed BS Snorlax. Might not be common in all areas, but I've found a good balance in 4 Machamps.

I get you don't see many Gardevoir and Metagross in gyms? Here they are quite common, so I keep a SB Mewtwo in my team.

I use just:
- 2x Machamps
- FB/IB Mew as dragon slayer and generalist resisting psychic fast moves
- TS/TB shiny Zapdos instead of Raikou (I like the way it looks)
- B/Cr Tyranitar
- Sky Attack shiny Moltres

I find little to no use for SB Mewtwo in gym battles, and I find Rayquaza and Dragonite rather frail (common defenders have Dazzling Gleam and Ice charge moves). I hate single-bar moves for gyms for all the overkill or wasted time/energy, so no Kyogre, Groudon or Focus Blast mons.
