Glass Cannon Gengar

I've been holding on to a Shadow Claw Gengar, which is the absolute definition of a glass cannon. 15 attack, 1 defense & 11 stamina.

I know defense is the least "important" stat, and everyone loves a SC Gengar for DPS, but is this guy worth upgrading as an ultimate glass cannon?

I'm gonna say yes, but Gengar is the one case where having a high defense IV can actually save it. What level is it to begin with?

you're gonna take 9.6% more damage than a 15def Gengar from Mewtwo's Confusion.

"I know defense is the least "important" stat,"

I've always disagreed with this. When taking a charged attack, a point of defense will usually reduce the damage taken by 1, or a fraction close to 1. If you take 3 charged attacks in a battle, that's 3 points saved. A point of stamina usually gives you one extra HP, only once. So IMO, defense is more important than Stamina, and both are less important than attack, but not by a lot.

I'll agree with you, but in case of Glass Cannons this might not always hold. Gengar is so fragile, you rather want HP than defense I would say. It's a guess from my side I have to admit, based on plain reasoning.

Preferably both. Being able to survive 4 Alakazam confusions involves both defense and HP IVs.

IIRC with damage calculations being floored "close to 1" still amounts to zero change. So an attack the deals 90 damage can actually be dealing anywhere from 90 to 90.9, the game reads it the same. It would need to drop to 89.9 for the damage reduction to actually mean anything.

Technically it is rounding up to the nearest whole number -- floor(damage)+1 -- but whatever. Same difference.

Wouldn't power it up even if it was 100%

Shadow claw Gengar is the most over rated pokemon in the game. Save that stardust and power up a bite/crunch T'tar instead.
