FTM Steelix from IT/HS to DT/HS?

Of course, DT/HS is better on defence. What holds me back is that Steelix with IT/HS may be viable on attack. No Metagross yet, but I do have an Aggron, also with IT/HS, that I could power up. I also have more than enough (specifically, 19) FTMs. The gym scene in Singapore is very competitive and I seek more gold badges (despite lacking Chansey candy).

I would say Crunch is better for defense, but as you like. It hits with the same amount of power, 3-bar, similarly resisted by Machamp, etc. For defense, Dragon Tail is head and shoulders better due to facing the same enemy.

I was actually wondering why, on defence, DT/HS is given an A- grade but DT/Crunch is given an A grade. Steel attacks do neutral damage to Machamp and are SE into Tyranitar (Dark attacks are NVE into both, but are not resisted by Raikou and Entei).

I don't think anyone would ever attack Steelix with Tyranitar (35s TTW) or Raikou (50s TTW) unless they made some horrible mistakes with their battle party.

Steelix has zero offensive applications due to having such a low attack stat (148, same as Furret).

IT performs a bit better against Machamp, the most common attacker into Steelix, but honestly the difference between the movesets isn't great as long as the charge move isn't EQ. If you expect summer to be mostly clear and people packing a lot of fire-types for gym fighting, you could use an FTM and get DT.

If you're looking for a potion-efficient Pokemon that's a resistant Steel-type, use Aggron. Aggron is essentially the offensive counterpart to Steelix.

It really doesn't matter which moveset you take for defense except not EQ. Just never ever use Steelix for offense. Same applies to Aggron btw...they both deal next to zero dmg...

Aggron deals significantly more damage than Steelix, 50 difference in attack stat. That's like saying Graveler is as good a rock attacker as Golem.

I don't advocate using Aggron for attacking unless you're seriously lacking in other options, but it's just incorrect to say it doesn't deal any damage. GPs article in the sidebar agrees with me.
