Friendship management/why 20 gift limit?

So I put my Trainer code on the list yesterday. I went from 81 friends to 145 friends. Unfortunately we can only open and receive 20 gifts each day so I won't be able to do everyone everyday. I've seen some people on here say "if you don't send or open gift, I will delete you". If I could, I would be able to do that for everyone but can't. Hope no one deletes me. I have at least 50 gifts to open.
I was wondering how everyone manages? Opening and sending gifts on Gamepress and people they know in person if they have 50-200 friends and make everyone happy.
Wondering why we have a 20 gift limit?

I order the friend list by level, then just go down and try to halo as many as possible - either open or send. Once I've opened my 20 I try to send to ppl that have sent me a gift but we didn't advance - hopefully they can open. On a weekend or if I'm playing more I'll keep sending to everyone that can accept. I haven't hit this limit yet but apparently you can only collect 100 gifts in a day, FYI
I suspect the [obvious] reason why players are not allowed to open more gifts are the imbalances it would create in various economies. Can you imagine the resources one would get opening 100-200 gifts per day?
As a primarily solo player I have 24 Friends (Max Gift + 20% buffer) who I exchange with every day. Many are in blocks, so we can use lucky eggs for milestones and nearly all are at least 10,000 Kilometers away so local trades with Alolan hatches give sizable additions towards the gold badge. Once the 100,000XP friend bonus is received - stop gifting and start the process over.
