Choosing next multi purpose generalist egg or drsgonite?

disregarding CP, which do you think is better as a general attacker/defender that will provide the most coverage

1) C/SoB Egg 89 IV
2) DT/HB Dragonite 96 IV
3) SW/OR Dragonite 98 IV

I am planning an upgrade to my attacking team and want one more versatile attacker/defender

Already powered up Attack team
DT/OR dragonite
ZHB/SoB egg
ZHB/SeB egg (in gym)
TS/T Jolteon
FF/FB arcanine
Etc. hp Gary if I need it

Must power up eventually

1) TS/TB Jolteon
2) counter/dp machop
3) fs/oh flareon
4) double bug Scizor
5) yet to find good wg/hp vap but egg and dragon seem to cover everything i might need from a vaporeon

Since you already have a Exeggutor AND a Jolteon on your starting 5 I think that the priority for another Exeggutor is not that high (you already have a second one powered up). After that the deciosion for me comes down to DT/HB Dragonite vs. C/DP Machamp. Machamp is more time efficient when attacking Blissey, Snorlax and Tyranitar, but looses Health pretty fast. Still...you won't time out versus Blisseys if you start with him and are able to dodge DG. The Dragonite can kill blisseys too of course, and if your gyms are full of Vaporeon he is probably the better Choice to go first. You will have to max out all three regardless in the end.

My team normally consists of 2 Dragonites with DT/OR, 2 C/SoB Exeggutors, 1 Counter DP Machamp and then depending on the composition of the gym I slot in a DB/DP Dragonite, WG/HP Vaporeon, TS/T Jolteon, FB/B Lapras, B/HP Gyarados or FS/OH Flareon. Still missing a TRex with B/SE or B/C, but will evolve my second one soon after getting IT/FB on the first...

Thank you for this detailed response gregoire! I too feel like 2 dragonites will be useful on attack. I wish I had 2 dt/or but have a 98 IV DB/DP sitting in the gym since I needed something with high IV. Maybe I should switch him out with DT/HB and bring him back on attack? Right now it is mostly Gary and dragonite in the gyms with occasional Rhydon, 2 snorlax and 1-2 vaps. I feel the need for 2 jolteons to take care of gyms with 5 plus Gary's so i will probably start with that one. Not many blissys right now but I am ready with the machamp...

DT is the stronger move...DB is way faster...that depends on how much you value dodging. Of course if you need to handle a lot of Dragonites you will want DB/DP without a Lapras in your lineup. Have you tried your Exeggutor against the Gyarados? Jolteon is a must have for sure, but to put two in a lineup seems too much even if there are 5 Gyarados. There are others that can handle it good and Bite ones are weak, even if they hit Eggman SE.

Interesting point about trying egg versus Gary. Not really tried it. I will give it a shot!

I do have one maxed out lapras with ice shard/blizzard, another lapras at level 32 with fb, dp (bad candy investment) and a 3rd with Fb, ice beam at about 1749. I've got 38 candies left for powering up my main lapras at level 34 and 35. IVe tried lapras against Gary and he does ok but not great.

Lapras is for the Dragonite Matchup only as is Jolteon for Gyarados. You can of course use Jolteon on Vape too, but Exeggutor and Dragonite are both better options there. Lapras is there to fight 2-3 Dragonites and nothing else.

I would ad the SW/OR dragonite because even tho SW is NE vs vape it is SE against Rhydon, and Tyranitar. also OR is resisted by none of the big 7.
