Body Slam Snorlax Power up question

I have the exact ammount of candies to max out a Snorlax.

I have a 89% 15atk (body slam) and a lucky one 89% 14atk (body slam)

Should I power up one of them?

Does the extra atk point is so relevant?

Thanks!

Snorlax is not as valuable as it used to be. Machamp slices through it easily. If you really want one then I'd go with the lucky one. It won't make a difference for half the price.

I think the amount of dust saved offsets the one IV point and that's coming from someone who always favors higher attack IVs above all else.

Despite the first poster's advice, Snorlax is still one of the best gym defenders, and Body Slam is very difficult to fight against - with STAB it does almost as much damage as Heavy Slam, hits more often being a 3 bar move, and hits very quickly so is extremely difficult to dodge.

If the gym scene in your area is competitive, having a number of Snorlaxes and Blisseys is very important to get your daily coins. If you're a pay player who is happy buying coins, it's not as important. I'm F2P, and plan on building a stable of Snorlaxes with BS to hold gyms for a while.

And of course, anything can get taken down in a gym. Every pokemon has a weakness, and any competent attacker knows how to exploit that weakness. Having to go through a Blissey and a Snorlax that are pretty motivated can take two Machamps all by itself, and is a pain in the neck, so attackers will leave that gym alone until the pokemon are demotivated enough, so you get your coins.

All that said, do the lucky one first, and save the dust for something else. One point of attack on a defending Snorlax is no big deal. I had horrible luck with my Special research Snorlaxes, none of them is over 80%. Will do some trading, just hoping for 12/12/12 or better to power one up. 14 Attack is just fine, and with Snorlax and Blissey, a point of defense is probably worth 2-4 points of stamina (on the IVs), because base stamina is so high, and base defense is not great.

I am free to play, a 3,000 CP Snorlax with BS is just a minor speed bump, not at all hard to defeat within 30-40 seconds. Not much harder to take out than junk like Steelix or Lanturn. So in my area, I can get the same coins from a Xatu. So, it just depends on your area.

If a Lanturn, Steelix, or Xatu is not much harder to take out than a 3000CP Snorlax with Body Slam, we must be playing a much different game.

If it takes you anywhere near 30-40 seconds to take any of those out, maybe you should start becoming a not free to play player. I mean it costs money to put gas in your car to drive to raids, correct? Is there a true free to play player? Not in this game. I know people who spent money (and time, time is worth a heck of a lot more than money) doing things to help them improve in the game, such as driving places for a certain spawn, or certain raid, but don’t want to spend money in the actual game, what? I know people who bought a fuel efficient car to get better fuel mileage for this game, but they call themselves a free to play player. A free to play player is a player who doesn’t spend a cent on a game compared to any other free game. If you bought a go plus, guess what? You’re not free to play. If you’re driving out of your way in a vehicle that requires fuel, not free to play. If you bought a better cell phone because of the processing power to make you play the game better, you are not free to play. Just thought I would throw my two cents in.

Buying a new car for the sole purpose of playing a free to play mobile game seems a bit extreme, that person needs to reevaluate a few things in my opinion.

The other examples, yes and no. Buying a Go Plus unquestionably means you aren't free to play anymore, I'll agree on that. It's a peripheral device exclusive to this game, how do you even argue against that point?

The phone thing to a lesser extent, if my contract runs out and I'm phone shopping anyway then of course a better phone for PoGo would be a consideration even if it isn't the main drive.

Gas... eh. What's a five minute drive to a raid for me anyway? If you're someone who drives all over creating to raid/gym/hunt then that's a bigger matter but there's a lot more nuance in this example imo. And I say all of this as someone who spends money in game, I don't consider my gas expenses to be tied to PoGo. The gas I spend driving to work or out of town visiting family on the regular heavily outweighs the gas I spend meeting up for a nearby raid.

If you want to power up one go for the lucky one. You're not using it as attacker, so this point difference doesn't matter. In fact, both have same % but the 14A one may have an extra couple points of HP and that makes it a better defender. Plus all the stardust saved will allow you to bring it to higher level!

Snorlax is pretty good, but to really get the selling point of a Snorlax in a gym with a Blissey the gym should have fighting counters like DT/DC/H/O Dragonite, Con/SB/DG Gardevoir, or H/SB/ShB Gengar. I would do lucky one since the IV is the same the only loss is the attack IV. Half dust is pretty significant against differences that small.

Do the lucky one.
It will cost you less and it's a defender so you won't notice the difference.

Lucky for sure. You'll only be using it as a defender I'm assuming, and if they have the same IV% but one has a lower attack, then the other has to have a better defense/stamina combo so would likely be the better defender option anyway!

18 months ago I caught one 14/14/12, (89%) and eventually powered it all the way to 40. While it is a great gym defender now that everyone has very high level Machamps it isn't as formidable as it used to be. A level 40 Blissey lasts longer.

Over the weekend I got a 98% (15/15/14) as a field research reward. Sadly, I may not power it up since it would only be slightly better than the one I already have.

I fought a few Body Slam Snorlax but did not find it doing much damage at all. I think this move is hyped because in old days the Fighting types we now all use were hardly available. But Machamp is fast and does not get a lot of damage, even if you cannot dodge it. I am more wary of Dazzling Gleam.

TBH, I don't think you should power up Pokemon that are for defense purposes... at least not with the current gym system. I will advice you to save it until the gym system changes and then power it up UNLESS, the new gym system will be garbage. Snorlax also is not a very good defender nowadays... Blissey is waaay better. Also, I mastered the way to dodge Body Slam and I sure think that other people can master it too so it's ineffective.
