Apparently some spoofers got permanent ban :-)

This only applied to iOS spoofers who used a specific app but it is a start.

Yeah but most of them are probably on Android, so that would be just a small amount of spoofers banned. Still, it's quite funny to see all the salt and the appeal to emotions over there. But I do wish Niantic would add more pokestops / gyms to rural areas, one friend from Germany can't play at all in his village, and another in a rural area in Slovenia resorted to spoofing to get to the nearest gym (and he quit the game for good when the Android update happened and disabled his fake GPS).
Meanwhile, my city is full of pokestops and there's a gym pretty much everywhere.

I'll keep an eye on the ones in this area, but they'll probably still swoop in as usual. They're openly doing it, a new one popped up recently, he was filling gyms with regionals like Tropius and Relicanth.

Heh, these posts are always "popcorn worth".
It's true that most spoofers are probably android users. And I still believe that Niantic wouldn’t permaban all spoofers even if they could. But if they can at least scare some of them, I think it’s good enough. Many of them are not afraid at all and are even blatant about it.

Obviously I can’t prove this, but Idk... Something tells me that the majority of spoofers are actually urban players who just want to cheat.

If one is interested in contributing to the map of pokestops and gyms, the way to do that is to play Ingress. Agents (players) can submit sites that they think would be good portals in Ingress, once they reach level 10 (of 16), and the Ingress portals become pokestops and gyms, subject to certain rules, whenever Niantic updates the map. Further, agents of level 11 or above can approve these portal suggestions, so Niantic has completely outsourced the problem.

Yes, it's another game to play, and yes, it will take some time to get to the requisite level to make a difference. But if one has no stops or gyms in one's area, play Ingress. Of course, the rub is that if you have no stops or gyms, it also means you have no portals, and will have to travel to play Ingress.

I guess another solution is to try and find a local Ingress agent of high enough level to visit your area and submit some portal sites. Bit of a chicken and egg problem, I suppose.

About effing time.

I hope they hit multi-accounters next. Getting really sick and tired of seeing the same person take up four spots in the gym at my workplace.

Thing is it's basically impossible to prove multiaccounting because they can always appeal to "it's my family member's account and we use the same phone" and then it's just your word against theirs. As frustrating as multiaccounters are I don't think we'll be rid of them anytime soon.
