Anyone else very dissatisfied with Sinnoh Stones?

It makes me sick how Niantic thinks that they can push PvP on everyone by requiring Sinnoh Stones for ALL the new Gen 4 evos that come from earlier gen Pokemon. (Literally sick, I mean - I legit got a sinking feeling in my stomach when I saw that Mamoswine was going to require a Sinnoh Stone, and it happened again when I saw the recent announcement about the new evos).

If you're like me, you've been hoarding candy for these evolutions with great anticipation, only to have hopes dashed by the requirement of a Sinnoh Stone for all of them. And if you're even more like me, you are sick of the same old "tap tap tap oh okay we're done" PvP just to have a small chance at actually getting one of said stones. I mean, you KNOW there's a problem when Niantic has to come out with an event that says, "Here are five guaranteed stones for y'all because you haven't been able to get any others."

I mean, I can understand having an item requirement for those Pokemon that had one in the main games (although I still hate the idea of the single item for all of them), but this is just too much. They should AT LEAST make the stones rare drops from Pokestops and gifts like with past evo items, rather than having them tied solely to PvP. I am probably taking this all way too seriously, but I just wanted to see if the community feels the same way.

On a side note, I'm trying to figure out WHY Niantic wants people to play their PvP so badly. Do they actually make money from the amount of time people are logged in or something? To me, it would just make sense to focus in on raids and egg events to get people to buy those special boxes in the store. More $$ for Niantic that way.

Nothing wrong with linking them solely to PvP imo, the real problem I think is the PvP system itself. I find it extremely frustrating trying to find friends on my list who happen to be on at the same time AND are willing to battle. If you're not out & about that day & want to get your chance at the stones, there should be a simple matchmaking system whereby you can do your 3 battles with no problems at all. PvP is trying to be something it's not & caters more to the diehards who play non stop & have time to burn. I, and many others I suspect, want something more casual where you can battle when you want, as much as you want, and have fun with it.

Further, if we did have a matchmaking system, the first 3 wins should give you rewards, rewards shouldn't be given for losing imo.

I'm okay with the rewards being there for losing, but they should have the Sinnoh Stone guaranteed or nearly guaranteed for winning, and then just stardust for losing. Would make much, much more sense than the current "grab bag" system.

You want stones guaranteed for winning? Thats like a particpation award, “let’s give everyone sinnoh stones because they aren’t that easy to get!!”
Niantic is giving you 5 free Sinnoh Stones on the Swinub event so you can evolve your Piloswines to get Mamoswine. All you have to do is play PVP for like 15 minutes.
They are supposed to be rare. It keeps people playing PoGo.
I was laughing so hard that I felt sick to my stomach, reading that you felt like you were going to throw up, learning that Mamoswine did need a Sinnoh Stone to evolve. It’s really not that big of a deal, I have no idea why you’re complaining about this at all.
If you have no friends to battle, I have a suggestion. Actually try to locate your community, meet up with people, talk with people, battle them. If you go do raids, ask people if they want to battle after. It’s not that hard to get Sinnoh Stones if you actually do 3 battles a day. I get about 4-5 stones a week PLUS a couple rare candies, and so does everyone else that I battle with. Not everything is just going to be handed to you, there needs to be a reason to have people keep playing, and that’s exactly what Niantic is intending.

warpig:

You state "I, and many others I suspect, want something more casual where you can battle when you want, as much as you want, and have fun with it." You can do something much like that now, though you have to arrange for it outside of the game. I participate in some Discord chat channels where I communicate with friends that also play PM Go. We arrange for PvP in that chat and then go on to PM Go to do it. But you can't do that with randos, obviously.

In the USA, maybe Sprint wants it (and/or the banks that control Sprint/T-Mobile). Someone might have broke their phone purchased (financed) 4 years ago, got a new one 2 years ago...Sprint wants you to find a new one. Beyond that they also want to tempt you to have a mobile hotspot capacity to have a reliable "best friend raid"...and a reliable PvP fake friend, and then there is the trades. Which is a better strategy: send 25 Palkia to the Professor OR have 365 guaranteed Special Trades each year.

Ouch, I don't want to get a mobile hotspot, and I like having just my one account, but you're right, things definitely seem to be encouraging such measures.

Some companies let you mobile hotspot w/o a specific charge but SPRINT: "For just $29.99/month*, connect multiple Wi-Fi®-enabled devices to your hotspot-capable phone and take the Web with you wherever you go. Data usage with your mobile hotspot is limited to 5 GB per month while on the Sprint network"

They do this in America?

IMy Hong Kong plan (unlimited capped at 800KB/s) is equivalent to USD 18 a month and my UK plan (12G a month) is equivalent to 20 USD a month, both Sim only, on a contract. More still I can actually roam the UK one to Hong Kong for free and I can actually dual wield without having to hotspot when I play in Hong Kong...but I'm in UK the UK one hotspots fine with no clause in the contract anyway

Your networks seem to be doing daylight robbery there across the pond

I am sadly ending my UK contract- 1/2 the price for the same phone with 2x the data and free international roaming. I'll miss not having to hotspot.

Sprint is not a flagship company, probably similar to budget airlines that offer a lower price but virtually require add-ons. However, Starbucks doesn't mind more players than actual people...they give free open Wi-Fi and if in a big city that'll get some more foot traffic (iPad, etc)

Niantic promotes Pokemon Go as a social game, without proper social features. No wonder multi-accounting is so prevalent.

If it makes you sick you'd better stop playing.
Nobody pushes you. You can ignore PvP and still get stones via research.
On swinub CD they are giving you away for no effort 5 stones. If that makes you sick, do not take them. What's the matter?

Why does [game company] want their players to use [new feature that they spent resources developing]? Gee I wonder why :thinking_emoji:
Sorry about the sarcasm, but how can you seriously ask this question? It's a new feature, of course they want to give people a reason to use it since they spent money on developing it. They may even have more PvP-related things in the pipeline depending on how much new activity it gets from the playerbase.
They absolutely make more money the more time people spend logged in, it directly affects how much money they can ask for sponsorship programs etc.

As for worrying about the stones, really, most of the crossgen evos are just dex entries. It's easy enough to do the 3+1 battles every day, if you're the type of player who has gathered enough candy to evolve and power up 6 or 12 Mamoswines, surely you have the time to spend 10 minutes every day to roll the dice on the stone drops. It's not a flawless game mechanic, but I think it's much better that they limited evolving the crossgens in some way. Now there's something to work towards, instead of just pressing the evolve button immediately after the new mons go online.

Also, I don't understand how (most) people can't find fellow trainers.

If you have a dozen ultra+ friends, surely you can ask around a few times a day and see if you can find anyone.

I have my own (alluded above) solution, but I’ve had someone challenge me to a Masters Level and all three times he put in level 1 evolve trash, took total of about 45 sec. Just like rewards for spinning a pokestop, not like that takes any effort/skill***the above example is pretty much asking for help, especially if it is a random message board UF/Bfriend you have no means to chat with.

Every community is different that’s why.... Some could care less how fast you can duo a tier 5 Some think you are a casual if you don’t have hundreds of shiny... Some only about how fast you completed your Dex .... Others are about having a complete Dex of luckies ... Everyone plays the game different, every local scene is different it’s one of the coolest things about Pokémon Go

I'm gonna declare not too many tier 5 duos this week, very early Sunday had some misty rain that was gonna turn to fog at 7am. Three phones, 36 dragons to beat boosted Hydropump Palkia with 16 sec left. An RNG I guess, on a dummy account I checked 3 Palkia bt 627am and 643am, settled on the last one bc all had Hydropump. Which surprisingly is pretty tough (worthy challenge) when it's boosted.

I hear you... but the fact is Niantic is giving us a ton of Stones for just about zero effort the entire weekend and the day of ... It is extremely frustrating getting Stones if your local community isn’t into PVP... I play in three distinct communities a weekday group, weekend group and a park that is an half hour ride away from home none of which are into PVP ... the only advice I give is don’t spend them on dex entries and do the daily grind against the team leaders

The honest truth is if you do not multiaccount and had no family members to play with you, you are ready to eat shit in purgatory. Ironically if you don't need them, they keep popping up instead of dust.

They could so....SO easily remedy this by having some sort of "Available to Battle" indicator light on the friend's list that can be toggled on and off.

But what do you expect from a developer that puts the Cancel "X" directly on top of the BATTLE button and leaves it there

As much as I love to hate on Niantic, this doesn't bother me. It's only going to be a matter of time before you are deleting the things. You really only need 1 friend to battle with. My 2 kids do their 4 battles a day and one has already gotten at least 18 Sinnoh stones. I know he has gotten that many because I go in there to delete them because he likes to hord them but is low on bag space. Give it a month and you will have your 20 maxed out Mamoswines.

Rare? I got like 25 so far. Play some PvP, yes it's tap but there's more to the strategy than any gym or raid battle.

PvP is the best mode.

Well, I would respectfully disagree that PvP is the best mode, but I can see how you could build up a stock of those Sinnoh Stones as long as you do the 4 battles a day thing. For me, it just gets tiresome to do the battles, that's all.

Initially, I was. But now I have 8 sitting in my inventory, looking for a best use. It is a rather strange phenomenon. It's rare, so I hoard it, so now I have more than I know what to do with. When I get to the point of having maybe 15 or so and looking for some bag space, I will probably start to use them. They are a lot like charged TMs in this respect. Something is rare - so gather and hoard it - then, once accumulated, convert it to something useful.
