Another Typhlosion vs Charizard thread

Is a Shadow Claw/Overheat 91%iv typhlosion good as a 100% Charizard with Fire Spin/ Fire Blast for a fire type attacking?

Considering overheat is better, and the IV difference is quite minimal really when directly compared in combat.

I would say...its possible.

Overheat is strong.
But i think both could be used to equal effectiveness overall.

Charizards fire type quick move would help however if you plan to use him to counter things weak to fire, which is the main reason to use fire types.

I would recommend powering and using both, and may i also suggest if you really want to pick one or the other...just pick whichever pokemon you prefer, who do you think is cooler? Use it

Cool, good choice. And no problem pal.

Typh is a cool dude, and newer to the game

But you cant go wrong with either as I said, so make sure you hold onto that perfect IV Charizard too. Power him up in the future maybe, and who knows...maybe TMs

Charizard 100% - not only is it more iconic, but it should do better in battle.
Yes, OH is better then FB, by about 10 "true DPS" according to this site. [note they have identical base stats too].
However, for a fire attacking as you specified, the non-STAB, non-fire quick move SC is clearly inferior (except the shorter CD will make dodging easier). Again comparing true DPS from this site, FS with 18 and SC with 15, but you have to add another 25% to FS for type advantage so add another 4 damage for Charizard (except against Eggy, SC will also get a type boost), so the quick move calculation becomes:
Charizard: 22
Typhlosion: 15

tl;dr - by the time you're ready to unleash the charge move, Charizard's FS will have done quite a bit more damage then the extra that OH will net. Against Eggy tho, will be much closer.

[edit nmd, I see you went with Typh, it's all good!]

Charizard has a double weakness. But I'd keep both.

From best to worst fire attackers, the order would be something like:below (exact order depends on defenders, dodge style, and time/health priorities). I assume no typing benefits/penalities beyond just fire. Charizard is better as a fire attacker than Typhlosion, largely due to a better moveset with FS/OH available, but both are inferior to Flareon. Note that you don't have optimal movesets, which is generally more important than IV.

  1. FS/OH Flareon
  2. FS/Fl Flareon
  3. FF/Fl Arcanine
  4. FS/OH Charizard
  5. FS/FB Flareon
  6. E/OH Flareon
  7. FF/FB Arcanine
  8. E/Fl Flareon
  9. FS/FB Charizard
  10. E/OH Typhlosion

Shouldnt you add Houndoom then too?
With slightly less Attack stat than Arcanine and the same move (FF/FB), he is worth noting as a attacker.

edit: what move do you mean by FI? Flamethrower?
