If this is true, it's partly about letting new players get a good shot at the Kanto pokemon that the old hands have had 2 years to collect. It's also (probably) about the crossover to Let's Go Pikachu! and Let's Go Eevee! that are strictly Gen1. Okay, realistically, probably a lot more of the latter if this is all true.
Another Kanto event?
A friend posted in my discord that there was some twitter post from the japanese pokemon GO account saying there was going to be another kanto event like thing on the 16th. Its not like another kanto event is a bad thing per say, theres a lot of good pokemon in kanto that are helpful but didnt we just get one of these like a month ago? or the previous...I dunno how many there've been, like 4?

All I can understand are 11月16日 and Let's Go. In Chinese, 地方 means place and 世界 means world, but I am unsure whether they have the same meanings in Japanese. Any native Japanese speakers here to translate the rest?
To celebrate the release of "Pocket Monsters Let's Go! Pikachu · Let's Go! Evey" which came close on November 16 (Fri), events that will make it possible to find many Pokemon in Can Tho region including Pikachu and Eve We are planning. Details will be announced at a later date, so please be looking forward to it.
A proper translation from the Japanese Twitter someone posted to TSR:
"To commemorate the launch of "Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu / Let's Go! Eevee" approaching on Friday, November 16, we are planning a worldwide event that will feature increased spawns of Kanto Pokemon, including Pikachu and Eevee. Details will be announced later, please look forward to it."
It's to celebrate the release of LGPE and has nothing to do with people struggling to complete the Mew quest or anything like that. Seriously, the only people I know who haven't completed it yet are those who casually pick up the game once every couple of weeks or so. EDIT: Or late starters, before I get called out for that.
Frankly I am completely Kanto'ed out. This is the 4th Kanto event we've had since what, April? I get it; Kanto's their baby, it's the easiest to pander to because heaven forbid anything else get the spotlight lest genwunner shit themselves out of frustration, but god dammit is it extremely tiring. One of the things I liked the most about the Detective Pikachu trailer yesterday was that other generations were allowed to just be there - Emolga hanging out, Morelull floating alongside Bulbasaur, Pancham on a wanted/missing poster, the abundance of other regions getting shoutouts in background posters and whatnot. For the first time in a long time it actually felt like a cohesive representation of the entire series and not just "KANTOOOOOOOOOOOO".
I'm sure it'll be a nice mini-event. I'm sure there will be another shiny to chase that I'll end up not getting. I wish they'd actually get a move on more Gen 4 content instead of burning us out on the same shit we've seen umpteen times already.
I agree, I might like kanto and there are a few good pokemon, but it's been done to death by now, we've only had one johto event and nothing for hoenn since launch of gen 3. Its genwunner pandering that does make the game tiring at points because we want variety in the game, I went through my pokemon collection and my fist johto pokemon's where the slider's about a quarter from the bottom.
Some people at my discord think niantic was planning to release more of gen 4, but lets go kinda tied their hands with what thye had to focus on
Heh. Totally forgot about the Switch game; I thought we were done with the in-game cross promotion after the Eevee community day, forgot that it wasn't actually out yet. Hopefully once LGPE gets released, we'll see the end of the Kanto events once and for all. It's been 2 and a half years - time to move on to other Gens.
Gotta say, though, I wonder if it's a "genwunner" who's downvoting all these posts today. It's rather amusing - maybe on Friday they'll be able to complain about how dumbed down LGPE is, how bad of a Pokémon game it is, how much Niantic is ruining Pokémon, etc. etc. etc.
Eevee day was never explicitly stated to be LGPE promotion although that's the only reason I can think of for them to have deviated from the assumed CD pattern. Agreed, I'd love to see more for other gens. We'll likely see a Gen 3 event whenever they release Jirachi. Gen 2 for Smeargle maybe?
LGPE is a fascinating release for all the wrong reasons. It's designed to introduce the more casual/Go crowd to the main series... except that Go is free whereas LGPE is not. And requires a Switch, which casual Go players may not have. They made it a Yellow remake to bring back the "genwun" crowd but additions like mega evolutions and "your FRIENDLY rival" alienated those who remember Gary for being a dick. In interviews, they've stated it has something for everyone from children and families to professional players, yet most of the things that make the game competitive have been removed - abilities are gone, movepools are severely limited, a massive amount of moves are straight-up removed from the game. I'm not even talking about exclusive moves; from a datamine I saw a whole 3 rock type attacks exist in the game.
Credit where it's due though, seeing Red, Blue, and Green in the game was a pleasant surprise. The master trainer thing is a cool concept thought I wouldn't have made one for literally every Pokemon (how exciting can Metapod vs Metapod get?).
Y'all forget that Kanto is the iconic bit of Pokémon. That's what people remember. That's why LGPE is focused there. Whether it's 'dumbed down' or not isn't what I'm talking about. (Yellow let you get all three starters, FFS). If you didn't expect a Yellow-ish event to coincide, I'm appalled that your speculative powers about what December 2019's CD might be didn't have the imagination to expect this.
I too am somewhat bored with the idea of yet another Kanto event. Then I realized that means there will likely be more Magnetons, Rhyhorns, Tangelas, Magmars, Electabuzzs, etc., at a very good time to be stocking up on them (and trading them for luckies).
So that will get me though the ennui of yet another Kanto event.
