Is a 98% poliwag worth keeping

Caught a 98% poliwag through research (296cp) and was wondering if its worth evolving him to poliwrath or politoed like i know theres better water attackers out there (kyogre, gyarados, vaporeon, milotic etc.)

I mean, what does it even cost you to keep it? It’s a 98, so kinda cool if you don’t already have a better poli whichever one... poliwrath is not a horrible fight type... If the one mon space and 124 poliwag candies is too much of a resource outlay, then no, not worth keeping... if it costs you little, it’s good...

Also, if you don’t have a ton of good fighting types, it might even be worth some dust.... but if you have been playing for over 6 months, then you likely have enough machop and makuhita candies to have an army of machamp and hariyama so maybe no dust...

Its all deepnd on what style and prefered gameplay

Dont have better fighting type, dont wanna wait till you have one then go ahead if you like
Already have a good fighting type but wanna try something else for fun ? Sure
I play around with Absol the other day, one acc already have a good machamp counter, so i use unique fighting mon in the other one, including medichamp just for fun

You don't lose much by keeping it and 98% mons aren't exactly common.

Poliwrath is the better evolution in all ways and it can function either as a mediocre fighting or mediocre water mon. If you like it, you can find uses for it, but I wouldn't recommend powering it up otherwise.

To elaborate, Poliwrath is outclassed by all the mons you mentioned as well as Feraligatr, Swampert, Starmie and HC Blastoise in water and by Machamp, Hariyama, Heracross, Breloom, Blaziken and maybe others in fighting.

Why evolve.it at all? Who knows if and how abilities will be implemented. Politoed was the cornerstone of OU rain teams in at least one generation.

If community days have taught us anything, horde! If you want to evolve something you dank well better max it on the spot. Otherwise just hold off. Its not going anywhere.

Poliwrath would be the better option but its use is fairly limited as water types and fighting types outperform it. The only go-to situation for it that I can think of would be to fill out the last slot or two against Fire Blast Tyranitar raids. Even in cloudy weather Machamp still wipes the floor with it from a DPS standpoint, though Poliwrath has higher TDO against that particular charge move which could be useful to prevent whiting out.

I'd save it, on the off chance that they have a CD and give it a killer move, making it useful in the meta. Otherwise, even if it's your best fighting type right now, it will be outclassed very soon, so not worth investment of dust in. Candy is fine, but that closes the door on an exclusive move.

I'd keep it, as a poliwrath, against Heatran and steel sets of dialga it will be good (if dialga's hot hard hitting moves) and also goot agaisnt all sets of tyranitar n raids (it resists every move tyranitar has to my knowledge)

I have a maxed-out 98% Bubble/Submission Poliwrath that I use to fill out my general gym team of unique attackers. Its typing (Pokemon and moves) comes in handy against a variety of common defenders (Tyranitar, Rhydon, Aggron, Steelix, Donphan); it can pinch hit for my Machamp if it gets exhausted by its clashes with Blissey and Snorlax through the lineup; and it allows me to get away with not having to slot in a dedicated Water attacker for the odd Fire defender.

Of course, I invested in it long before Gen 2 was a glimmer in the game's eye. Would I do it now? Not sure. But I did, so away we go.
