PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Pick Confusion over Psycho Cut, especially for the bulky Cresselia.
  • Only lunatics would use Cresselia, but go with Future Sight if you do.

PVE Overview

Cresselia is a sitting lunar duck for punishment, which is fine in the main series Pokemon games, where it can stall opponents to death. For now, the only targets that it can stall to death in GO are players battling it in a raid.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Psycho Cut OR Confusion + Future Sight and Moonblast OR Aurora Beam

Cresselia has two main choices to make in PvP movesets: which fast move, and which secondary charged move. Psycho Cut (1.5 DPT/4.5 EPT) gives Cress the ability to fire off charged moves far faster. However, it comes at the cost of making her much less effective when your opponent still has shields available. Confusion (4 DPT/3 EPT) on the other hand puts less focus on pumping out Cresselia’s costly charged moves, instead expanding her into a Bastiodon-esque generalist that refuses to faint, eventually firing off a Future Sight.

No matter what, Cresselia should run Future Sight. It’s a hard-hitting STAB option with good neutral coverage. Cresselia’s primary secondary option is Moonblast. It gives SE damage against any dark-types that would otherwise stonewall her, as well as giving the anti-dragon coverage that Aurora Beam otherwise would. Aurora Beam gives Cresselia a slightly better matchup against Altaria and Tropius, but is overall not as important.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 5 / 5

Cresselia is one of the most powerful Pokémon in Great League, with its astronomically high defense and stamina making it very hard to take down. While it may be somewhat difficult to get (you have to trade it to make it roll down in range), its bulk combined with its very powerful moveset makes it an asset to any team.

Ultra League: 4 / 5

Giratina (both forms) are ubiquitous in Ultra League, giving Cresselia somewhat less of an opportunity to shine. However, against non-Shadow Sneak variants of Altered, Cresselia manages to pull out the win as long as Giratina doesn’t have 2 shields available. Prioritize Psycho Cut in this league for this reason. However, Cresselia remains as a top tier threat thanks to its bulk.

Master League: 2 / 5

Cresselia’s maximum possible CP is 2857, which puts it at an immediate disadvantage against the top tier threats in Master League. It’s not necessarily a terrible option, just an underwhelming one, and you should probably look elsewhere.
