PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Confusion has STAB and is overall superior to Feint Attack.
  • Heavy Slam is the best of Bronzong’s charged moves, with Flash Cannon as a strictly inferior version.
  • Psychic can be paired with Confusion for Psychic-type damage.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Confusion is of the best fast moves for gym defending.

  • Heavy Slam is the only 2-bar charged move option.

  • Psychic is hard to dodge and might punish Fighting-type attackers even more.

  • No reason to use Flash Cannon over Heavy Slam.

PVE Overview

Without the stalling and support moves of the main games, the big metal bell is left without many purposes. Its attack is too low to have any offensive presumption (using it in a Machamp raid would be as effective as using a Jolteon or a Golduck), and its defensive capabilities don’t really stand out either.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Confusion+Heavy Slam and Psychic

Confusion is a strong quick move at 4 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and 3 EPT (Energy Per Turn). It hits hard between shields while also powering up charged moves at a good pace and bringing some heavy punishment to Poison types, which Bronzong tends to excel at taking down. Heavy Slam (70 Power/50 Energy) is a bit weak at 1.4 damage per energy, but it's Bronzong's fastest-charging move. Psychic (100 Power/70 Energy) is much in the same boat, but takes longer to charge, hits harder, and has coverage against Pokemon that Bronzong is likely on a team specifically to counter.

Confusion+Heavy Slam and Flash Cannon

Virtually the same moveset, but this one replaces the coverage of Psychic for a bit more neutral damage from Flash Cannon (110 Power/65 Energy). While having two steel-type charged moves may seem redundant, In cases where you expect to not deal super effective damage with Psychic and don't expect to see anything that resists Steel type, Flash Cannon is actually a superior option with its faster charge-time and higher damage. However, Heavy Slam is still the better general utility Steel move for Bronzong, meaning Flash Cannon and Psychic won't be quite as effective together.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 3/5

Bronzong is a solid Pokemon in every sense of the term. It has good typing, good stats, and a good moveset. However, being "good" isn't enough to make it "great". General stars of the Great League such as Medicham and Altaria just have more utility than our bronze-bell friend. Its one real niche is as a counter-Pokemon. Bronzong's laundry list of resistances allows it to come in on some otherwise threatening Pokemon, and its good stat distribution and move options let it beat down Pokemon that would otherwise threaten its team. Playing Bronzong to its strengths and making sure that other team-members need those strengths are the keys to success with Bronzong. Just make sure that its weaknesses are covered too!

Ultra League: 1/5

Bronzong falls a fair distance short of the 2500 CP mark, but it can still function in the Ultra League much the same way that it does in the Great League. The problem here is the fact that it's largely out-classed in the exact same role by Metagross.

Master League: 0/5

Bronzong has no real utility in the Master League.
