PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Poison Jab should be paired with Sludge Bomb for decent Poison-type DPS.
  • Bite should be paired with Crunch to counter Psychic- and Ghost-types.
  • Flamethrower shouldn’t be used offensively.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Poison Jab is the superior move on defense.

  • Sludge Bomb and Crunch are both hard to dodge; the latter will be fired more often and can punish Metagross attackers, but not Machamp.

  • Flamethrower doesn’t have great coverage here either.

PVE Overview

This mischievous skunk is actually not that bad of a Poison attacker, sitting right behind Roserade, Gengar, Toxicroak and Victreebel. However, that’s mostly due to lack of competition and it’s a mostly irrelevant role in the raid meta. As a Dark-type, Skuntank is outclassed by numerous Pokemon, but it’s still viable as a budget option for players who might lack optimal counters.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Poison Jab + Crunch and Flamethrower

This moveset provides great coverage and hard hitting charge moves. Poison Jab, 3.00 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and 3.5 EPT (Energy Per Turn), will pack a punch and give you some solid energy gain. Crunch, 70 Damage and 45 Energy cost, will give you some great coverage over Ghost and Psychic Pokemon while doing some decent neutral damage to 13/18 types. Flamethrower, 90 Damage and 55 Energy cost, will be a solid move to cover Bug, Grass, Ice and Steel Pokemon, this will be necessary due to Pokemon like Tropius and Skarmory who are a staple of Pokemon Go PvP.

Poison Jab + Sludge Bomb and Flamethrower

Again we are going with Poison Jab, 3.00 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and 3.5 EPT (Energy Per Turn),  for the great energy gain. However, this time we are choosing Sludge Bomb, 80 Damage and 50 Energy cost, for coverage of Grass and Fairy type Pokemon, specifically to cover Azumarill. Flamethrower, 90 Damage and 55 Energy cost, makes a return as it will help cover some of the top tier Pokemon like Tropius and Skarmory.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League:  3/5

Skuntank is a solid pick when it comes to the Dark/Poison tanks available in the Great League. It’s moveset provides it with great coverage for some of the toughest Pokemon found in the Great League! However, its weakness to Ground type moves gives it problems when Pokemon like Toxicroak and Whiscash are roaming around.

Ultra League:  2/5

Skuntank doesn’t get any better as you power it up. It’s ground type weakness starts to be exposed more as now we have Pokemon like Groudon who can be used in the Ultra League.

Master League:  0/5

Best to keep it in the Great League.
