Movesets Grades

* Legacy Moveset

X = Sub-optimal moveset with zero viability

Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Spark should pair with Wild Charge for some of the best Electric DPS in GO.

  • The Dark-type Snarl + Crunch set is inferior even when super effective.

  • Hyper Beam serves no purpose on an offensive Luxray.

Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Snarl is superior to Spark on defense, thanks to better damage and coverage.

  • Crunch is harder to dodge than Wild Charge and has lower energy cost, but the latter is much more powerful.

  • Luxray probably won’t survive long enough to use Hyper Beam.

Rating Explanation

Gen 4 introduced 3 great Electric-types to compete with legendary powerhouses such as Raikou and Zapdos: enter Electivire, Magnezone and Luxray. Luxray is the worst of the trio, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad.

It does, in fact, strictly outperform Jolteon, the previous best non-legendary Electric attacker, and has DPS on par with Zapdos, although it lacks a bit in durability. So it’s a perfectly viable alternative, if you want to use it for variety or just because it looks cool (which it really does).
