Offensive Moves Explanation
  • Fury Cutter and X-Scissor offer the highest DPS when facing Psychic, Dark, and Grass-types
  • Bullet Punch and Iron Head are the preferred set for dealing with Rock, Ice, and Fairy-types
  • Note: Scizor is currently the only user of STAB Bullet Punch
  • Night Slash is underwhelming; a three charge move with a longer cooldown and does not benefit from STAB, only offering additional Ghost coverage
Defensive Moves Explanation
  • Bullet Punch is on par with Fury Cutter, both having similar coverage or lack thereof.
  • X-Scissor is clearly superior to Night Slash; both are three charge moves with similar DPS, but the latter's cooldown is significantly longer, making it easier to take advantage of dodge windows.
  • Iron Head is often better than Night Slash, offering higher DPS at a shorter cooldown despite being a two charge move, although the latter offers wider type coverage.
Rating Explanation:

Scizor has excellent ATK and DEF stats but is held back from true greatness by lackluster offensive typing, which relegates this Pokemon to a Psychic or Fairy-killer niche and part-time Tyranitar / Articuno attacker.

Defensively, high DEF stats and Steel-typing offer many resistances, but Fire is an strong counter, exploiting his glaring double weakness as well as resisting both STABs.

Though his uses are fairly specific, Scizor fulfills them with ruthless efficiency. Bug STAB absolutely shreds the doubly weak Exeggutor along with the already fragile Alakazam.

His true calling could be his Steel-typing, which comes in handy when facing specific higher level raid bosses such as Tyranitar and Articuno. Keep in mind Scizor is currently the only user of STAB Bullet Punch. Resisting STABs of both while responding with super effective attacks, Scizor without a doubt proves to be an asset when battling in those high-demand raids.
