Offensive Moves Explanation
  • Fire Spin is clearly superior to Ember, dealing higher DPS despite sharing identical cooldowns and energy gain
  • Overheat is superior to Heat Wave and Fire Blast, sporting both higher DPS and lower charge times.
  • Flamethrower, though inferior to Overheat, has a lower energy cost and may be more useful in certain situations. Definitely not worth using a TM on.
  • Heat Wave, is extremely underpowered in all aspects.
Defensive Moves Explanation
  • Fire Spin is clearly superior to Ember due to a raw numbers advantage.
  • Flamethrower offers more frequent attacks than its single charge competitors; while Overheat and Fire Blast deal higher DPS, their dodge windows are more exploitable
  • Overheat clearly outclasses Fire Blast, possessing higher power and lower cast time.
  • Heat Wave is underwhelming, for the reasons stated above.

Rating Explanation:

In a meta that sees limited Fire usage, Flareon does its best using what it's given. Access to high-power moves like Fire Spin and Overheat serve to optimize its purpose as a niche Grass/Bug killer. Despite featuring one of the highest ATK stats in the game, Flareon's poor typing and shallow movepool severely limit its effective matchups. It does, however, have decent bulk, making it a strong yet affordable attacker when facing Ice threats like Articuno.

Alas, pure Fire typing curbs its versatility when compared to the likes of Houndoom, who offers STAB advantage plus resistances against Psychic/Ghost, or Charizard, who wins the Fighting matchup.

Though it may only have one job, it fulfills that purpose well, outclassing its fellow pure-fire Arcanine in every aspect. Sporting the 10th highest ATK in the game coupled with the relative abundance of Eevee, Flareon has a cost-to-benefit ratio that should not be ignored.

Raid Boss Counters
SupremeOverall best counter always. Almost always top in DPS and very high in survivability. The Pokemon you want for the job.
GoodThe next best if you don’t have Supreme Pokemon.
TankWhen you’re down to your 5-6th Pokemon and need to hold the line and not suck while doing it. Tanks always have more survivability than Supreme, but less DPS than Good.
GlassMore DPS than Good with significantly less survivability. Note: Less DPS than Supreme.
