Overview

Palkia has appeared, and for the first time we have a Dragon that is not weak to Ice. Because of its Water/Dragon typing, our options are more limited. In general our best bets are Dragon and Fairy. Unfortunately, there are no Fairy fast moves, and Palkia hits back at Dragons pretty hard.

For the first few days, an unboosted duo was fairly achievable vs no Draco Meteor sets, and even Draco Meteor was possible. In addition, there were cloudy Fairy options too. That all changed with the HP increase on 1/31. The unboosted duo is now EXTREMELY difficult, and even the windy duo will be a challenge.

Approach

Team composition

  • Rayquaza is by far the best option

  • Palkia is great vs Hydro Pump & Fireblast

  • Dragonite & Salamence can also duo in Wind. Latios just barely misses duo viability at 40, but it is a good filler option.

  • The lobby glitch is recommended as every second counts

  • re-lobby is required for most duos. Be sure to stagger re-entry such that one trainer is always battling. Otherwise Palkia will regenerate some energy. This is especially important to manage in the Draco Meteor duo.

  • A second team of high level Dragons can be helpful, but is a luxury many don’t have

Dodging strategy

  • DO NOT dodge Draco Meteor with Dragons. You will initiate the death loop dodge glitch

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters viable for Best Friends at level 35 in Wind
Rayquaza Rayquaza
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Incredible duo option

  • Draco Meteor set is manageable in wind, though 2 relobbies are needed

  • Can duo in neutral vs non-DM sets, though win % is very low

Cons:

  • Draco Meteor Duo is very difficult even with level 40 Rayquaza. Dragon Tail is actually easier, as it generates more energy for the attacker (and DM one shots Rayquaza regardless)

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Very strong duo option, especially vs non Draco Meteor sets

Cons:

  • Reliance on a single bar Charged Move is a problem in the Draco Meteor Duo

Counters viable for Best Friends at level 40 in Wind
Dragonite Dragonite
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Very strong duo option. More available than Rayquaza after multiple Community Day events

  • Draco Meteor set is manageable in wind, though 2 relobbies are needed

Cons:

  • Dragonite is filler at best vs unboosted Draco Meteor sets

Counters viable for Best Friends at level 40 in all weather
Salamence Salamence
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Strong duo option, especially vs non-Draco Meteor sets

Cons:

  • Reliance on a single bar Charged Move is a problem in the Draco Meteor Duo
