Overview

Kyogre is the strongest water type, potentially for the duration of the game. While it has not found a strong niche in PvP, it is an essential raid piece. Whenever it comes around, trainers should always look to raid this whale for candy and high IV versions

The trio is achievable. In addition to the CP Rebalance, type effectiveness change, and Friendship, Kyogre is made easier by the availability of Mewtwo (Thunderbolt) and Electivire. Three Ultra Friend trainers can win relatively easily with level 30 Electrics (Raikou, Electivire, Zapdos, Mewtwo) or Grass-types (Venusaur, Roserade, Breloom, Sceptile, both Exeggutor, Victreebel). BEWARE OF BLIZZARD. Almost all of these options will be one shot against Blizzard, even at level 40. While these guides are very quick to endorse small groups to maximize rewards, nobody will fault you for going in with a group of 5 vs Blizzard, especially if you don’t have maxed Raikou/Mewtwo (Thunderbolt). Things get easier with higher level Pokemon, higher friendship, and weather boost.

The duo is where the challenge is. Unboosted is quite difficult, though it didn’t take Kaito Nolan & LegacyZelaya long to duo it. Electivire’s stellar DPS is key, as is Kyogre’s ability to take on a Blizzard and keep fighting. Rain and Clear weather open up some more options, but are still very hard.

Approach

Team composition

  • Electivire is best in the unboosted duo vs Thunder

  • Raikou can beat Thunder and Blizzard, but the percentage is low

  • Grass excels in Clear, but never against Blizzard. Electivire or Raikou can be used as filler in Clear as well

  • The lobby glitch is highly recommended as every second counts

  • Relobby is required for some duos. Be sure to stagger re-entry such that one trainer is always battling. Otherwise Kyogre will regenerate some energy

Dodging strategy

  • High level Raikou often benefit from dodging the first Hydro Pump & Blizzard

  • Other dodging varies by Pokemon & moveset. See specific descriptions below

  • Be aware of the dodge glitch death loop when dodging

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters viable for Best Friends at level 35 in Rain vs specific movesets
Electivire Electivire
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Very strong option for duo without weather boost vs Thunder (70+%)

  • Borderline viable on paper at level 30 in rain, though number of deaths requires 2 re-entries and gets very close to running out of time. Level 35+ is recommended against non thunder sets

Cons:

  • Double re-entry is still an issue vs Blizzard & Hydro Pump at level 40 in rain, but margin is enough that time shouldn’t be an issue

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Can beat Thunder moveset easily even at 30 in Rain

  • Can potentially duo Thunder & Blizzard without weather boost, but win rate is less than 35% for each

Cons:

  • Boosted Hydro Pump is difficult even at level 40

Counters viable for Best Friends at level 40 in Rain vs specific movesets
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Extremely high winrate at level 40 vs Blizzard (95%+)

  • Filler level vs Thunder. May be good on a second team. Requires a second relobby if using all Mewtwo, making a win difficult (~35%

Cons:

  • Too many deaths to be useful vs Hydro Pump

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Strong vs Thunder, potentially useful as filler vs the other sets

Cons:

  • Fragile enough that it would almost always require a second re-entry vs Blizzard & Kyogre

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Useful vs Thunder, though more on the filler side

Cons:

  • “Viable” is likely an overstatement. Useless vs Thunder or Blizzard in a duo

Counters viable for Ultra Friends at level 35 in Clear vs specific movesets
Venusaur Venusaur
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Bulky option, high chance to beat Hydro Pump and Thunder without re-entry

Cons:

  • Useless vs Blizzard in a duo

Counters viable for Ultra Friends at level 40 in Clear vs specific movesets
Roserade Roserade
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strong vs Thunder & Hydro Pump, but is fragile enough to always require re-entry

  • Single bar charged move can lead to lost energy

  • Useless vs Blizzard in a duo

aloEg Alolan Exeggutor
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Typing allows it to excel vs Hydro Pump and Thunder, often with no relobby necessary

  • Useless vs Blizzard in a duo

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Excellent vs Thunder

  • Good vs Hydro Pump. A few dodges can make its win rate 100%. Without dodging a second relobby is possible

  • Useless vs Blizzard in a duo

Sceptile Sceptile
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strong vs Hydro Pump, filler vs Thunder

  • Useless vs Blizzard in a duo
