PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Rock Throw should be paired with Rock Slide, the bread and butter Rock-type set.
  • Psywave can be paired with Psychic, though Lunatone is poor as a Psychic attacker.
  • Confusion is a great Psychic Type Fast Move, but is inferior to Psywave.
  • Moonblast has minimal offensive utility on Lunatone.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Confusion is the best defensive fast move in the game.
  • Rock Throw isn’t too shabby, but it’s inferior even when Confusion is resisted.
  • Rock Slide is the optimal defensive charge move, with high power and 2 bars.
  • Psychic is good on defense, but it's redundant with Confusion.
  • Psywave pales in comparison to Confusion on defense.
  • Moonblast is 1-bar and will probably never get a chance to be used.

PVE Overview

Lunatone is a somewhat iconic Pokemon, and a bit rare due to the fact that it and Solrock change places in the Northern/Southern hemispheres for each equinox. However, it's genuinely not worth investing in.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Confusion or Rock Throw + Rock Slide and Psychic or Moonblast

Confusion is generally recommended due to its superior energy gains, but Rock Throw can provide direct and immediate Rock-type coverage if needed as a specialist.

Rock Slide costs the least amount of energy, gets STAB, and provides wide coverage. Psychic benefits from STAB to threaten strong Psychic-type damage, while Moonblast is an alternative option that offers Fairy-type coverage to hurt Dark-type opponents.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1 / 5

Lunatone... is not good in PvP. It has a nice moveset overall, but not nice enough to make up for its sub-par typing and slightly offensively-oriented stats. It can be useful in some cases, but its niches are better served by other Pokemon.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

Giratina says "Hi".

Master League: 0 / 5

Seeing Lunatone hit the field is sure to make your opponent happy (if a bit confused) at least!
