PvP Moveset Explanation

Counter + Body Slam and Rock Slide

Counter is an awesome move for PvP, and even without STAB performs significantly better than Scratch

Body Slam is the main charge move for Vigoroth, benefiting from STAB and enabling heavy shield pressure thanks to its low energy cost and good DPE. Rock Slide is a good move and provides further coverage against Flying- and Ghost-type Pokemon and is Vigoroth's preferred second Charged Attack. Bulldoze is a poor move, though it has utility in dealing additional damage to Steel-type Pokemon.. Brick Break is pretty bad since it has a pathetic 1.14 DPE rating, lacks STAB, is somewhat redundant as Counter already deals good Fighting-type damage, and Body Slam can be used to bait shields.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 4 / 5

The Silph Arena's Nightmare Cup highlighted Toxicroak as a Fighting-type Pokemon that resists Fighting-type damage, but Vigoroth is the exact opposite since it takes advantage of Counter but is also weak to it. Vigoroth's style is a bit different, as its typing allows it to take mostly neutral damage from a majority of its foes, while retaliating back with neutral Body Spam. Abusing the perks of Counter gives Vigoroth a lot of wins in Great League against popular picks like Probopass, Bastiodon, and Umbreon, though this isn't enough to handle opponents with more powerful Community Day moves such as Meganium and Blastoise. Overall a good pick for Great League that you should definitely consider, but its rating would be higher if you disregard other Counter users like Medicham.

The December 2023 update gave Vigoroth Rock Slide, strengthening its matchup against Ghost- and Flying-type Pokemon that previously gave it some issues. As a result, Vigoroth is now a safer choice as a generalist. It must still be wary of Medicham and Deoxys Defense, but it can go toe to toe against just about any other Pokemon.

Ultra League: 2 / 5

Access to Counter still gives Vigoroth wins against most popular Steel-type opponents, but Vigoroth loses to most of the remaining meta candidates. Oh yeah, Snorlax also doesn't like Counter.

Master League: 0 / 5

Vigoroth isn't meant for the Master League.
