PvP potential for Milotic

How good is milotic in PvP? Presently I cant play it because phone's garbage, but eventually ill get a good phone and have a few good milotic (plus a possible shiny when the research happens).

How good is milotic, and what kinds of teammates work well with it?

It has dragon tail which is great, especially considering that it doesn't have any weakness to dragons!
Unfortunately, it lacks access to hyrdo cannon, ice beam, water gun, outrage... or really anything that makes it stand out in any match-up.

Milotic's only real use is as the best water-type gym defender, and even then Feraligatr may have just dethroned it.

Well then....im hoping milotic gets an event move then...maybe water gun or something good.

I mean dragon Tail is excellent for PvP... I might just hope that Milotic gets access to a dragon type charge move such as outrage at some point. That would put it at kingdra levels of usefulness.

Feraligatr is a lousy defender compared to Milotic, it's only got 77% of Milotic's bulk. Doesn't matter that it gets a better charge move, Milotic will always take longer to kill at similar levels.

Wasting time isn't everything. If it were, the only good defender ever would be blissey/GRB.
Feraligatr (much like gyarados) poses more of a threat to feinting at least one attacking mon, wasting attacker resources more than milotic would.
Granted, youre probably not gonna run someone out of revives and potions, but you also probably won't run them out of spare time so it's all relative anyway.

Either way, this discussion probably doesn't belong under a PvP thread.

You want to know whats a better defender than Blissey plus GRB? A gym that people wont want to attack because of the set up

Honestly, blissey isnt even a good defender by comparison anymore, few are as willing to GRB to the full extent like they were before, which is why we dont see the normal tanks anymore aside from her. It was the combination of the normal tanks with the GRB that posed a threat to attackers because of time waste, now with the effectiveness rebalance and the CP rebalance and the reduction of GRB from raids all together have left the other tanks and even blissey itself rendered less threatening, which is why more diverse gyms have risen to prominence. Blissey itself folds much faster to machamp and poses little threat to it unlike before, where it was easy for a blissey to knock out machamo because of SH/DG, the fighting's effectiveness buff and machamp's bulk buff combined with blisseys loss of bulk really tooka chunk out of how good it was. It might be the best from a pure stats standpoint, but in practice, even it folds hard, its why a blissey on its own isnt a threat, the rest of the gym supports it.

Blissey/Dragonite/Milotic/Metagross are a staple in every gyms I see where I am, they offer a great balance of type weaknesses that arent easily counter able, by one/two pokemon, and such make it take longer to beat with generalists or make players switch. Making others not want to bother taking your gyms are always better than having to defend them when under attack.

One thing they did (intentional or not) is make duo'ing tier 5s very accessible. Instead of knocking down a gym, I prefer to look for a Heatran, 2 minute countdown, 5 min tap, couple minutes catching. I'm not scared of any gym setup, but I barely really get anything for taking a gym...My 2nd account for a Heatran bf duo can range from good (38) to below-average (34). Use free daily passes, on those no coins needed. Main account has leftover ultra box passes. To flip a gym I want it to be laughably easy and/or 730pm--past raid curfew.

I only replied to it because it was mentioned. Feraligatr isn't strictly better in its ability to threaten damage because its fast move is limited to WF, while Milotic can get either WF or DT. Bringing a grass type that resists WF will severely reduce damage the attacker takes. Against electrics Feraligatr does deal more damage, but pokebattler says it can't KO a Raikou of a similar level even with no dodging.

Ummm, how about Surf? That's one of the better PvP moves, better than Hydro Pump, IMO.

In order to build speed into Charged Move rankings, I look at Power divided by energy to the 3/2 power. In those rankings, Surf ranks way above every other water move except Hydro Cannon. Milotic with it should be a beast.

(Edit: Origin Pulse is better too, but we don't have access to that yet.)

Good to know.

Even if origin pulse were out, i wouldn't consider it for anything in ranking personally, mostly as its likely to be exclusive on kyogre and if for ultra league, why would someone keep the best water attacker at lower CP when its so much better maxed out unless they dont raid?

Thanks for letting me know, ill definitely keep that in consideration

It's not really worth playing in Great league, where there are much better water types like Azumarill and Blastoise. In Ultra league it seems fairly decent.
Whatever can help cover its weaknesses to grass and electric works well with it. Giratina for example, although really it works well with nearly anything due to being so good.

The only possibilities for Milotic are either a buffed Brine/Scald, or a new fast move in Whirlpool. (Water Gun wouldn't help it much) Unless these moves are insanely broken it's unlikely Milotic will ever be viable. :P (It could get Bulldoze for its Electric counters though)
