Isn't Niantic contradicting itself?

They dont encourage people to play with more than 1 account, but then they introduced the trading for people to obtain lucky Pokemons. I initially only play with one phone, but then seeing other trainers always getting lucky pokemons, even lucky hundos, I too started using another account to trade with myself.

The funny fact is that since I have 2 accounts now, I am actually spending less premium pass.

Good for you, Niantic. Dont you guys think so?

Ya rerolling and getting 100 IVs is cool but lucky only halves the cost of stardust to level up. Unless you intend to max the mon out lucky doesn't make a difference

Lucky mons have the highest probability of being very high IV, as it's the only way that guarantees 12 IV in all stats.

That is from usability point of view, but many PoGo players are collectors, and lucky entries in pokedex count as well. Just look at them, they're awesome in the pokedex with the darker background and the sparkles around :)

I've done 4000 trades, 3970 of them have been to myself. Thinking that is not an extreme benefit (main account would probably be better w/o trading and luckies) I'm using stardust on both ends, guess I'll be to 1 million stardust spent (500k each end) by the end of the year. Biggest advantage in my opinion is the best friend damage and ball bonus, 18 balls to throw is a lot of chances to secure a raid boss.

This is my "now" help from luckies. Not super spectacular, it hasn't helped me do anything. Lucky Mewtwo was nice but still costs a bunch candy. Same with the Metagross, ran out of candy. For the future some of the starters and other potential community day stars the best use of lucky trading right now. I traded/trashed/ruined 5 Dragonite, 5 Gyarados, 7-8 level 30+ Tyranitars. It'll keep on paying off though (currently sitting on 149 Giratina candy! With almost no chat chattering)

I'm sure the nerf on raid rewards is due to the friendship being a way to get enormous amount of bundles. 18 balls is just too good.

From what I read on silph road the bundle calculations do not include friendship pokeballs. Still great for trying a few pinap berries before dropping the rasps.

to be honest, really anything niantic adds to the game would in/directly encourage alt accounting, its an unavoidable consequence, but at the very least it does in part help players who dont use alt accounts, traded with a few friends on my college campus for 3 distance candies each, something alt accouters cant really do

I knew a guy who had an alt account, when guaranteed luckies came out, got himself 8 lucky super meta relevant attackers, 3 being SB mewtwo, and the other 2 being his shiny togepi and shiny kyogre, nothing is going to stop people from doing stuff like this, so at least niantic gave non-alt'rs something good as well even if alt accounters benefit a lot more

But the real benefit of alt accounting is gyms and raids, trading didnt really do anything for alt accounting that the two prior things hadn't't already done, but the friendship bonuses for raids is what encouraged alt accounting more,

Speaking as someone who has two phones and two accounts trading isnt much of an advantage .... being able to do most raids by myself is the true advantage .... If I can’t duo it knowing that quality of my raiding partners doesn’t really matter all that much is also a big advantage .... Lucky Mons are cool and all and getting a Meta relevant Pokémon with decent IVs and at decent level definitely is sweet ... Personally I have way more pressing needs for my stardust than to gamble it way on some IV re-role, hope it goes lucky, and the level doesn’t drop to much crapshoot ... Now trading for distance and getting extra candy is a super sweet deal, not something I can really do between accounts.

I don't have an alt, but my kids have an account (level 32). Knowing that we can duo many (if not most - Alolan Marowak is a main outlier) tier 4 with best friendship bonus and/or weather is a very nice addition. If they were 40 with more of their meta relevant mon (3 Meteor Mash Metagross instead of the 1 they do have), I'm sure we could do more.

It's not just the trading but also raids, gyms and shinies. Huge incentives for multiaccounting in this game.

Personally I wouldn't have made my 5k+ trades if it wasn't with another person, it would simply be too boring for me to make a second account and trade with myself.

Niantic is trying too hard to promote Pokemon Go as a social game with minimal regard for rural or toxic communities.

What would actually promote socialising among players (with less toxicity): official alternatives to raid maps and Discord, etc. groups.

Comm chat like they have in Ingress. Tbh it would have been a huge mess in PoGo with the numbers of people playing.

It's quite useful to have in Ingress but there are so few players in comparison, I agree that it would just be a mess in POGO.

Lucky pokemon were intended to bring back retired players. What they got instead is that active players brought back retired accounts, but not their owners. It's not really a contradiction but a side effect.

Trading needs dedication and that's why is easier for families or couples who play together. If you play by yourself you may make a few trades when you meet for raiding, CD, etc. But time is usually limited. Most trades are comfortably made at home while you appraise and get rid of the trash.

Or you could play with a friend or meet some hardcore players in your city while doing raids to trade. Although i think at certain point it's certainly benefitial for hardcore players to have multiple accounts, i don't see Niantic actually encouraging it as you say

Niantic has been contacting itself since Day 1 - you've always had the option to log into the same device with a different account, and it has always been the go-to Error Message when you can't log in.

Yeah, they also don’t recommend driving and playing Pokémon go either (with all those pop ups, they really don’t) yet so much of the game is benefited by driving, even though I bike myself for kms.
