Rebalancing is coming - not thrilled with that!

Anyone else annoyed at the 'rules of play' and the "rebalancing" of CP & HP about to take place - changing again?
I am.
What other game is played where the rules keep changing?
What about those special mons that we've invested stardust & TMs into that get nerfed?

I've been told that these changes are to make the game easier for casual players...but what Niantic SHOULD be doing is making the game (esp. gym battling) MORE challenging IMO.
Isn't that more rewarding and fun?
I think so...

it's easy enough already. With the friendship XP bonuses and anyone can catch legendaries off raids. It could scarcely be easier.

Niantic would be laying an egg if they go down that path further; "casual" players are not the ones who give them money. I myself have been a "casual" player for months at a time when i've gotten bored of the game, GO is the last thing i would spend my money on during those times.

Truth be told, it's hopeless to speculate on this until we see the changes.

Yet in a post just after this one, you did just that, concluding that, among other things, "Blissey is done". C'mon, dude.

“What other game is played where the rules keep changing?”

The rules aren’t changing, the game is being balanced. Essentially every game in existence is balanced and updated, especially online ones. League of Legends, for example, is patched and balanced every two weeks.

The gym meta needs a rebalance, and they’re likely prepping for gen 4’s release and potentially PvP and/or a level cap increase.

Act like Gen 4 is an expansion pack; you have to rebalance existing content to keep up with it.

Its part of gaming, I know it hurts sometimes but every game does rebalancing and ALL developers cater to casuals.

- On the contrary, very excited. It's a positive thing.
- Every single game I ever played did rebalancing. Which games have you played that did not?
- No, changes are not intended to help casuals but for PvP implementation (how does that make sense to you? The game has no complexity already)

Chess. They never rebalanced chess. It is what it is.

Oh, you meant online games. Nevermind.

Funny you mention chess. It was rebalanced several times in its very long history (last major change in 1862, which is kinda yesterday if you compare lifetimes of these two games).

Get a grip people...this has been done twice already...and the game is still successful. Of course I preferred the original gym set up with 10 levels (was easier for strong players to dominate) and personally thought when they removed prestiging (which was the best strategy in game) I would never get over it but guess what...I did. If the game isn’t functional for a mass player base it prolly won’t last long. They will always nerf and power some things down the road bc it makes the game flow more coherently. Am someone who has problems with Pokémon storage on a daily basis for at least the last 3 months so obviously am attached to a lot of these guys but small price to pay for having a coumminty to share the game with. If you cut the player base in half would not be nearly as of a good gaming experience. This board never ceases to amaze me how much time people spend on complaining about stupid things. If causing you stress prolly time to move on to a different game like solitaire

Dota2, League of Legend, Overwatch, technically a bunch of online games do. That's how they keep games fresh.

"What about those special mons that we've invested stardust & TMs into that get nerfed?"

Honestly speaking, if you speak for the investors of Blissey, Snorlax & Slaking, I really don't care. It's about damn time for the gym to have some sort of diversity.

"but what Niantic SHOULD be doing is making the game (esp. gym battling) MORE challenging IMO."

More challenging than attempting to solo a 3200CP Blissey? Or a row of Chansey, Snorlax & Slaking? While being at risk of them suddenly been fed a Golden Razz during battle?

All card games as well. Magic the Gathering, Hearthstone etc. The change is built into them.

What challenge is there in soloing a 3200 cp Blissey by the way? You throw a Machamp at it, you win. You throw anything that deals good neutral damage, you win. Blissey isn't a challenge for anyone with halfway decent pokemon. The game needs fights that are about more than beating the defender as fast as possible so the owner doesn't start feeding berries.

I can already tell by that question that you do not play many games at all....

I'm cool with that.

The game is coming to a point where every smart (non hardcore, non casual) player starts to have semi-perfect* teams against most oponents...so its the right time to shake up things again.

*maybe not all pushed to max but 6 of the top 3 counters, doing 3/4 of the max possible damage

I’m worried about that it will be easier for spoofers taking gyms. There has already been an increase in our area the past couple months. Now they can more easily take gyms without expending the resources they had been.

We’ll see how this goes. I’m starting to burn out on this game. If it’s somewhat disappointing maybe it’s time to quit

I just play on way to work and back from work. Then when I go to the grocery store, not much time but I do play every day. When I’m bored at work I open gifts (and throw away supplies) on a couple extra accounts for free revives and some friend xp. When I’m at home and can’t get out of house (3 y/o) I trade with myself.

"What other game is played where the rules keep changing?"

As others have said, plenty. Online games that get rebalanced, board or card games that get new editions, there are plenty of examples, and Pokemon Go has had it before too.

"What about those special mons that we've invested stardust & TMs into that get nerfed?"

What about them? Depending on exactly what the re-balancing entails, they may still be just as good. If they aren't, so be it. Again, this isn't new to Pokemon Go. It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. Even within the main Pokemon game series, the meta changes between generations.

Even if Niantic didn't ever change things up like this, it would still be changing, since Pokemon Go is being caught up with the main series, and beyond that will continue to get brand new creatures. What is a king of a type today may be knocked down further in the future. If you can't accept that, this may not be the game for you.

And I'm thrilled about it. The current meta is so stale and so boring. I mostly just catch some Pokemon every day, do a raid (maybe even 2!), And that's about it.

I barely bother taking down gyms because some AH blue player with too much time is just gonna feed it berries and waste my time. And why shouldn't Pokemon strengths change over time as they would in real life?
